How is someone able to inspect before bidding if you cant give them your phone number?

How can ebay expect someone to spend thousands of dollars on an item with out looking at it first?  You cant put your phone number on a listing or send it in a message to a potential bidder to give them your address.

You'd be better listing the fresh air at 1c, then eBay gets nothing (although you can't list items like fresh air or farts).

Is eBay pushing sellers to list pick up items on Gumtree, or pushing them to the classifieds? I'm glad I don't offer pick up as a general rule. It's becoming impossible to do anything these days without being accused of selling off ebay. Guess what ebay, I own the item. Plus I own other items that I've never listed. If I want to sell them to someone I will. You don't have exclusive rights to every single item in my house, regardless of what you think.

Buying a BIN item is one thing, but how do they know how high to bid on an auction item without inspecting it first? I once paid $1,100 for an auction item that was pick-up only and I wouldn't have bid at all if I hadn't seen it first - and I drove two hours each way to inspect it first.

recent posts on some threads on these boards have reported that if a buyer sends a seller a message asking if they can inspect the item before bidding/buying then the seller gets a warning from eBay about selling off-eBay.

Quite ridiculous really, because sellers have no control over what a buyer sends them in a message.

CONCUR. YOU ACCOUNT WILL BE RESTRICTED EVEN IF YOU USE A CODED PHONE NUMBER ON RECOMMENDATION BY EBAY ITSELF. IF CAUGHT LODGE A COMPLAINT AND EBAY WILL GENERALLY REFUND THE FINAL SELLING FEES.

I am in the same predicament. The item is a 5 hour drive away and has been damaged as stated in the listing. The photos don't show the full extent and can never do so. So I need to inspect this item before I even consider entering an Offer on this item.

We need to exchange phone numbers so that we can keep in contact during the site visit. Stuff can happen on a 5 hour drive. Ebay need to provide some way for transactees to exchange details so that pre inspections can be undertaken.

And of course I need the address too, so that I know where to go to to inspect the item.

I guess I need to get the seller to provide some key words so that I can hit up Google to contact the seller so that the inspection can actually take place. Because of this, I will look at not using ebay anymore as they are not providing a full service and are denying potential sellers of the best possible price due to restricting who is able to inspect and then bid on items.

Ebay, lift your game!!!
