I’ve never had this problem before so not sure how long to wait.. a buyer made an offer on a very expensive item I’m selling which I accepted but now they keep making excuses and dragging out paying. Is there a time limit or is it up to me how long I wait before cancelling? It’s just annoying as I have a feeling it’s going to fall through and this is time that my listing could have been up. TIA

After 4 full days of no payment you are able to cancel as unpaid.
Any feedback left may be removed upon request.

If you change your listings from Buy It Now and add "Immediate Payment Required", you won't ever have this problem again. Unfortunately there are buyers who do mess sellers around.
Just to clarify - have they actually purchased and is the transaction sitting as Payment Pending?
You could just cancel it with the reason "problem with buyers address" (so you don't incur a defect).
Or you could open an Unpaid Item dispute after 4 days and assuming that the buyer doesn't pay up, they will get a strike on their account. Enough of these and they will be unable to purchase from sellers who have their buyer blocks in place.
For me, I would cancel the transaction and relist it, block the buyer and add Immediate Payment into all the listings.

Unpaid items are a subset of 'cancel' these days, jelly. And they kick in after 2 days.

Ah, thanks for the clarification!

No worries. It can be hard keeping up with where the goalposts have moved. Especially when it can be daily. You almost need a GPS to keep up.

Sorry I’m not sure what this means?

They made an offer that I accepted so that’s why it wasn’t immediate payment. I was worried if I cancelled it now they could leave me negative feedback? So they can’t ?

Why would they leave you negative feedback? They obviously don't want it, so they probably don't care.
I believe that if you cancel, they cannot leave FB anyway - at least that's been my experience. I've cancelled a few over the years and have never had a problem.

I’ve read plenty of feedback for other sellers before saying seller cancelled the transaction etc

4 days... and then the option to cancel as unpaid is available to the seller.
