How to get someone to leave feedback, so I then get paid.

Hello everyone.

How is the best way to get someone to leave me feedback. I am an honest ebayer and have been ebaying for over 19 years. My last item that I listed, I have been informed by ebay, that they will not release the hold of my payment until, the buyer has received my item and also left positive feedback. I have asked the buyer on numerous occassions from the day that I posted it, including even again today, to get him to leave feedback, and he wont. I have asked ebay, to intervene and request him to leave feedback, and they wont. So, not only now, I am out of pocket for the item, but also for the postage, insurance, and packaging. This is immensely unfair. I have spent over 2 hours with ebay trying to resolve with no help. I will never sell using ebay again. There no longer is seller protection.

That’s odd eBay saying they won’t release funds until the buyer receives the item and leaves positive  feedback. I was of the opinion that feedback is voluntary. Unless eBay have changed their payment policies and this is now the case I would never get paid funds as I’m finding Buyers rarely leave feedback these days.

I opened a new secondary account last Month. I signed up to managed payments and provided ID which was approved.

My first sale occurred 1st Jan 2022. I had a message from ebay attached to my order and it said the following:

Thank you for sending your order and uploading the tracking details. While we confirm the buyer does not have any issues with the order, your funds will remain on hold until 15 Jan.

They buyer actually received the parcel 7 days after they bought it. I asked for feedback from the buyer but he was a new member and didn't provide any. Today 16 Jan I got my email saying "you payout is on the way to your bank account". Tomorrow it will probably go in.

Since then 2 other items have sold, one with tracking and 1 without. All 3 orders are having funds held for 2 weeks only. At no time was I ever told that I must have feedback from the buyer to be paid out. For today's payout I still have no feedback from that item.

A 2 week hold of funds for a new account is fair and reasonable. I suppose when I get a few sales up it will be like my other account where funds are in my bank account within 3 or 4 days. The system works correctly for me.

Whatever advice you take away from this forum, I think the main bit at the moment should be to hold off from contacting the buyer again. Lots of buyers don't give feedback and if you keep hassling him, you're likely to get feedback alright, the sort you don't want, maybe a neg with a comment like "Don't buy from this seller, they made my life a misery with non stop pestering to leave feedback."

I don't know why the ebay reps have told you that you must have positive feedback before funds can be released. Are you sure they were not talking about in the short term, as in funds being released before the normal holding time expired?

In any case, you have tracking that proves delivery and as long as your customer doesn't open any claim, then eventually I would think ebay will have to release the funds, no matter what the reps said. It just might take a couple more weeks, that's all. It would be good if you could come back though and let us know how you get on with this. Good luck.

Not sure if you'll be back to read this, or if you managed to get the issue solved, but on the odd chance it helps anyone, the best approach with eBay reps who are insisting on A being the case when you know B is the case, is to calmly and efficiently use the Socratic method of questioning.

I had to do this recently when I had to get a dispute closed, plus some related neg FB removed and a charge for a postage label that a buyer never used (false INAD claim, buyer processed the return label, never returned the items, but left neg FB - I had to first get the case closed due non-return of the items within the allowed timeframe, then use that as the basis for getting the neg removed, then get them to clear the charge for the postage label - that last bit was the hardest, though with each issue I had to keep bringing them back to eBay's explicitly written policies and ask why they weren't being applied. With the postage label, I got transferred multiple times and each time the rep would get on to chat, say "let me just catch up on the case", spend 5mins looking at the whole chat log only to come back and say "sorry, you've been transferred to the wrong department, I have to transfer you somewhere else" 🙄 Very frustrating but the whole time I was just 🙂-ing politely and thanking them for assistance so I could point out my non-disputable facts to the right person - didn't get the charge cleared, but did get a PayPal payment for said amount within 24 hours while the charge was debited from my bank account a couple days later).

Anyway, my point... The best thing to do is not just ask something like "why aren't my funds being released?" or "when will they be released?", you say something more like "I'm confused about why my funds are still on hold when according to eBay policy, they qualify for release". And then you just keep bringing them back to that, no matter what they say, if they say "the buyer needs to leave feedback" demonstrate that you know more than they appear to, and say "I understand that's the policy when there is no tracking provided, but this order had tracking and the policy in that case is that my funds are released" -  keep asking why their policy is not being applied, not why you aren't getting the funds or similar.

You are the first reasonable and understanding person on here. I do like your approach. As to everyone else, that is treating me like I am a guilty person, and have to provide personal transcripts, well I am not going to. Firstly, I am not internet savvy, to know how to go about this, and secondly, I do not see that I have to prove my case. If you dont like my reasoning, then I dont care. As I have nothing to prove to you. I know what ebay clearly stated, and have it in writing. Anyhow, I have backed right off now, and not worrying anymore about the matter. If eBay eventually pay me, then I will be happy, and if they dont, well then they wont, and I could not care anymore. I have more going on in my life than to worry about this payment now. I have just been diagnosed with a very serious health condition, and that needs all of my attention.

And I suppose now, some of you want proof of my health condition, that has just been diagnosed.......well that also is private and confidential.

Anyhow, I am now signing off and saying goodbye.  Thanks again digital*ghost.

The more facts you provide, the better we can help you. No facts, little help, as we are just whistling in the wind.

I realise you think we are mindreaders, but few of us are.

... because the OP changes their story every second post?

It calls into question their veracity.

….. *sigh*…..

Well, maybe because these so called invisible transcripts have been the whole crux of the OP and her rant about why eBay are refusing to pay her until she receives positive feedback!  and regardless of what ANY other member here, told her, she kept reverting back to the fact that she has copies of the transcripts that STATE what eBay reps supposedly told her. So obviously, eBay reps/ the cleaning lady or who ever know more than real sellers and buyers on these boards.

I asked to see the transcripts because I don’t believe that the reps said anything to that fact at all. This OP story was wishy-washy  from the start.
If she showed proof that what she claims was indeed the truth (which I doubt, but putting that aside) then I’m sure she would have received a lot more positive help on here, and she would also have received an apology from me.

As it stands…. I don’t believe one damn word that she writes.  All huff, no puff!!!!
