How to refund PayPal payment for Pick Up item

Sold an item as Pick up only and Cash only on pick up. Buyer has paid via PayPal. How do I refund the payment without coping a defect?

You can log on to your PayPal account and just refund the payment you received from the buyer. Let them know if they don't already.

You will have to check with the buyer that they agree to a refund and a cash payment, unfortunately you have to accept Paypal if the buyer insists. Many d o not realise that they have no buyer protection if they use paypal and pick up so point this out as being the reason to offer to cancel their payment and let them pay cash (cleverly worded it sounds like you are doing them a favour.

If they still insist on using Paypal you are only at risk if they try to do a bank chargeback. Make sure they sign a receipt saying they have inspected and accepted the item. You should have their address but just to be sure note the rego number of their car then if they are a scammer (highly unlikely) and do a chargeback then you have the evidence you need to go to the police.

In all the years I have been on ebay I have only heard on the boards of this happening a handful of times and of the 3 who came back to tell us the outcome they got their money in the end.

In the unlikely event it does happen then come back here and there will be a lot of suggestions on how to proceed.

The bottom line is they are allowed to pay via paypal if they wish.

You can't insist on cash.

Personally, I would accept the payment. You won't have any problems as long as they do in fact pick up the item.

We had something like this happen a few weeks back. Person wouldn't arrange a time to pick up, eventually paid-via paypal once a dispute was opened. Still didn't pick up and a week or so later was able to get a full refund via paypal.

It's kind of sneaky because by doing it that way, they avoid copping any strikes for non payment.

But I would guess that is a rarity and 99% of people who pay for their pick up item in advance are genuine and will pick up.
