I am trying to Accept the List 5000 free items offer and it doesn't let me.

ACCEPT 5000 FREE LISTINGS. - System won't let me accept as I usually do in the past for 1000 & most recent 2000. Error message comes up "By Invitation Only"

Ebay Customer Care is closed also at a time when they are usually open.

Is there a crises effecting ebay that I don't know about?

If it is on your eBay page and keeps returning to your eBay page - then try clearing your browsing history or try a different browser,

Just had a chat session with eBay who advise that it is only if you receive an EMAIL that you are 'INVITED'.  The 'OFFER' that appears on your home page is 'ADVERTISING' ...!!!

Please don't get too excited with the 5000 free items offer - it's more like a trap to me. The offer is NOT free if you end the listings by the end of first cycle, that means the good til end listings are not free for the initial period until it is automatically relisted when the times come.

Essentially it's a buy one get one free deal, i.e. you get 5000 free listings only if they are relisted in the next cycle, so you need to pay for at least one month's listing fee to get free one month's listing fee.

This deal is not as good as it sounds because if you want to pull out some listings before it relists ebay will charge you the supposingly free listings.

Some sellers may know that already but I would like to warn those who are not aware of this fine print.

That is incorrect.

New GTC listings that start during the promotional period are free. Those that roll-over from a previous month are not included. There is no penalty or charge if you end the listing at the end of the first month. Normal listing fees will be charged (if applicable) when the listings roll-over to the next month.

From the link above:

Good ‘Til Cancelled Listings

  • Only Good ‘Til Cancelled listings created during the Promotion Period will be eligible for the Promotion.
  • Good ‘Til Cancelled listings created during the Promotion Period will be eligible only until the listing automatically re-lists.
  • Good ‘Til Cancelled listings created before the Promotion Period which automatically re-list during the Promotion Period will not be eligible.

Hi I hope you are right. But the second line of your quote says

"Good ‘Til Cancelled listings created during the Promotion Period will be eligible only until the listing automatically re-lists."

"....eligible only until the listing automatically re-lists."

isn't that what I referred to previously? If a listing is not auto relisted (e.g. it is ended manually before relists) then the original GTC listnig is not eligible for free promotion that means you will be charged the original listing fee, is this correct?

"....eligible only until the listing automatically re-lists."

This means that when the listing automatically rolls-over you will then be charged any normal listing fee for the new month.

I didn't receive this current offer but on the previous ones 4 months in a row I ended heaps of listings and relisted to take up the free offer each time and paid no insertion fees. You can also list for 30 days if you don't want to do GTC listings.
