Selling feedback

Why can you only rate a selling transaction as POSITIVE in the feedback regardless of how the buyer performed ?

Because that is eBay's rule.

Selling feedback

There is alot of discussion on this topic through the boards here, so I guess thats why responses are low on this topic.  But I'm new to posting here so I'll add my 2 pennies worth.

I guess one of the reasons is because the last thing you want as a seller is to discourage buyers from shopping on eBay.  If sellers could give negatives I think the whole dynamics of the place would change, thats just my opinion. In the end all the buyer has to do is pay for the item in the time specified by the seller or there abouts.  If they dont pay you can always cancel the transaction and relist the item or if there were other bidders offer a second chance to the next highest bidder.  Essentially it's the buyer who is taking the bigger risk IMO they are the ones who have to pay for something before they have it in their hands. There are so many "chances" (for want of a better word) that things can go wrong ie; they have to trust that the seller is legit and honest in their description, that they posted it when they said they did, that the postal service does their job properly ect ect and this is all before the buyer even gets to see their item in the flesh (so to speak)

On the other hand some sellers probably deserve negative feedback, but I guess these are the ones that you make a point to "block" so that you will never have to deal with them again.

I dont really understand all the talk about feedback..I dont leave feedback because Ebay does it for me for selling .. Feedback is nothing to worry about if your listings are honest and truthful. Yes I know it looks good to have 100% Positive but eventually you will get a Negative or Neutral. I have had them in the past. Just remember Sell honestly and truthfully and you will have no worries.

If you pay with a safe payment method like PayPal then the buyer shouldn't be worried about any of the things that you have mentioned.

Feedback doesn't bother me either way,I just don't understand it when you receive low DRS when you have posted quickly and you have charged less for postage than it costs, your communication is excellent with the buyer but still the buyer leaves less than a 5 star score, why do they do this?

I totally agree.  But usually when you purchase something and pay straight away as most good ebayers do, you want to see your item show up as described in a timely manner, well I do anyway, cos lets face it I could always just go down to the nearest shopping centre and purchase what I want and have it in my hand straight away (unless of course I am looking for something totally specialised or collectables ect which usually I'm not...)  I've made a purchase becasue I want the item, the last thing I want is for the transaction to go wrong and waste a  heap of time messaging and waiting for replies and filing disputes/claims ect.

And TBH as a buyer I dont feel as though recieving feedback is as important as it is as a seller.  I want feedback because primarily I want to know that the customer recieved the item and that they are happy with it.  The numbers themselves are secondary, whats important to me is customer satisfaction. And I guess no news is good news as a rule but still, I mean how long does it take to leave feedback, a whole 10 seconds of your time, you should just do it cos it's a part of trading on ebay Woman Wink

Feedback is just numbers. I do not leave feedback to buyers as Ebay do it for me but if someone leaves me a negitave or neutral They do not get feedback from me. I am from the old school The Customer Is Always Right, If they are not happy they contect me Like tonight a lady  had a problem with 1 of 3 iteme she bought as the item didn't do what it was suppose to do. I says Fine throw it in the bin and a replacement is on its way..If she is happy all is good if not she will let me know. as I said before list your items honestly  and truthfully and be truthful to your buyers they are your custmers and ALWAYS Right (Even If They Are Wrong)

Trashing of DSRs for post cost and speed, when you charge no more or less than post costs and you post within your stated handling time  irks me too.
