I have just written to eBay

I have just written to eBay telling them of the Australia Post closures in December and January - I got the details from my Post Office Yesterday. Silvio the Post Master helped me to compose the message so please don't shoot me down.

This problem applies to every single seller from Australia - PLEASE READ CAREFULLY - On December 24 2014 ALL Australian Post Offices will close for Christmas. They will be closed Dec 25, Dec 26, Dec 27, Dec 28 AND Dec 29. For the New Year (2015) they will be closed Jan 1, Jan 2, Jan 3 and Jan 4. PLEASE TAKE NOTE AND ADJUST YOUR ESTIMATED ARRIVAL OF ITEMS ACCORDINGLY PLEASE. Remember, your sellers are just as important as your buyers and many many of the buyers take your 'Estimated Arrival' of goods as law! I personally inform my buyers of the Post Office closures and I know a lot of sellers do the same, but we can only do our best, the rest is up to eBay. Have a Happy Christmas and an excellent New Year - Sandra - downeyas :))

Perhaps the dates might interest aussie sellers as well

Re: I have just written to eBay

Ok, heads up, my dates DO match up with Dylans timetable, in country towns, as I am, my dates are correct - are you telling me that all sellers live in big towns?

Yes I have included the weekends but I did that to also help anyone that wants to arrange a short holiday  for themselves

I also requested that you  ' don't shoot me down'  but Lyndall and Collective, you just couldn't help yourselves could you Woman Frustrated

Re: I have just written to eBay

And further to that, Australia Post DO NOT give the timetables for Australia Post Shops - they are privately owned and can run their own timetable - and they do!

Am I angry? you bet your sweet bippy I am

Sorry if I offended you but if you are going to advise ebay of AP hours then surely you should be using the official dates and hours as available on the AP website.

If you wish to advise your own customers of the hours that apply to your local area that is fine, but don't imply that it applies to the whole of Australia.   I accept that many POs are closed on Saturday....my particular reference was to Monday 29th December...a weekday, and business as usual according to AP.

Their Picnic Day holiday is Friday, 2nd January which is the only extra day that applies to AP only.

Yep, that Picnic Day  ( next one 2nd Jan as lyndal posted) makes the closure seem longer, especially if it falls between Christmas Day and 1 Jan... usually only one day the PO is open that week.. I receive late Christmas cards about 3 Jan.. over them by then.

Re: I have just written to eBay

From what I can remember from previous years the delivery times displayed by ebay over the Christmas/ New Year break take into consideration the public holidays as ebay have a link to the AP site.

I have never had a problem with buyers having unrealistic expectations of delivery times during the Christmas/New Year holiday period. 99% of buyers are well aware that Australia Post are closed for Christmas/New Year. The only day of closure which may cause a bit of confusion is the holiday on the 2nd of January which buyers may not be aware of. That is very easily overcome by communicating with buyers who may have paid for items which would normally have got posted on that particular day.

Re: I have just written to eBay

I have experienced in the past that the PO may be open but there have been no deliveries because the posties have not been working (or only a skelaton staff) and the private contractors that deliver parcelsfrom the local sorting centers have been on holidays from 23 December until 4/5 January so no parcels going anywhere for 2 weeks only letter post.  The 2nd week of January is chaos in my local PO as they run out of places to put all the parcels that are dumped there for collection.

Am thinking of pulling all my current listings until next year.
