No, a long way from Melb....Goldy actually....long drive down...yes the market is rather resrticted up here and as you say it's not something that would travel well.....I thought of packaging it up in a wooden crate and filling it with....rice foam fillers....

I'd probably put it in the collectables category that Curra mentioned. You can list in 2 categories but you have to pay a fee to list in the second category. $2 I think. That is payable each time the item relists, so if you list the item to relist 3 times for free, then you'll still pay the $2 each time. If it doesn't sell in that category after a few relists, then I'd try the other category mentioned above.
I am also in awe of your work! Absolutely stunning!

It will probably cost an arm and a leg but I think the safest way to send it would be to use Pack & Send with the service where they do the packaging, they can't wriggle out of it by saying the packaging is not good enough!
You should perhaps look at the etsy site, it is good for selling things you have made yourself.
Do you have any local tourist type shops that sell artworks on consignment?
Somebody is going to REALLY want it so if you decide on ebay I would try it as a 7 day auction and if no joy put it up as a BIN for 30 days.
Good luck.

Why I asked is my elderly Dad is a scratch build modeller. Won many show prizes for his works in micro miniature & makes buildings etc for train buff types - some of whom do exhibit in Qld! & across Australia. I thought you might enter your work in a show? I have great respect for modellers. The time & effort involved sadly outweighs any price for the finished work.
For 10 years my Dad's been working on a medieval castle (about 3' x3' x3' in size). 00 scale citizens & animals. Mostly made from scrap & junk. Handmade trees & gardens. Working portcullis & running water. It may be ready for Melb Show this year. A lot of the ebay train sellers have sold me items for the castle. Thinking outside the box I bought him nail decoration canes from China - which when slivered make great plates on his handmade tiny dressers & such! Is your ship manned?

No way I'd risk this selling this on ebay.
