.... as a result of now being a "Top Rated Seller" I lose the 30 free listings per month. That really is a back handed compliment.
I am competing against others who don't have to pay GST or tax and who get free listings every month.
Forgive me for not being overcome with joy at this new Top Rated Seller status.

hi Gwen... nice to see you, hope all's well up there with you. Not such a good end to the year here, with Vic now in a nursing home, in high care ๐

I wondered how Vic was when I saw in one of your replies that you were now on your own.
I have had a dreadful year - Bob has merkel cancers on his face and has been having chemo - had one lot and those cancers went and two months later more appeared and now he is having stronger chemo - he is so week - for a man who was always in his workshed making things to somebody who now lies in bed or sits in a chair and sleeps.

As said, you have used your free trial to prove your selling model is viable. Now you get to pay for the service just like the vast majority of sellers here.
As such, you're now on the level part of the field.
If you choose to keep listing. Whilst your sales on your own website may well be going fine, you obviously made money out of selling here. Unless of course you were selling at or below cost.

As for selling elsewhere, I am doing very well indeed selling through my own website. Any serious seller knows that you cannot rely on one place to sell. Diversification is very important. ebay is a good place to sell but it is not a monopoly.

I also have a website and also teach art classes but I sell more on eBay than I do through my website

My feeling on this is that ebay would be better off trying to encourage and nurture Power Sellers and Top Rated Sellers like they used to. The trouble is that some appear to get free listings "by invitation" while others get nothing.
It really is ludicrous that many sellers are creating additional userid's just to get the free listings.

Not on .au as far as I'm aware. Any seller who is a powerseller, a registered business or owns a store pays insertion fees.
The 30 free listings are available to any seller who doesn't meet the above criteria. No "by invitation", no special deals. And only for the last 18 months, anyway. Before that EVERYBODY paid.
Did you get a special invitation for free listings? Or did you simply avail yourself of what was on offer at the time? You've been around for 12+ years; did you get free listings when you started? NO.

moviemem, I have to admit that at first it does seem like a rather backhanded complement but just wait it out a while as it does do wonders for your rep. as a seller. You may, however, suddenly find that it becomes a little bit more financially viable to convert to selling under eBay stores...as I'm tossing up doing at the moment. However, I used to have a store on the OLD eBay scheme where a basic store cost 1/2 the price of what it does now...and it's this that's been holding me back.
