Using the auction method I put $700 for the price with .99 starting bid.
I wanted $700 as the reserve. I did not find this clear when I listed the item and I am not experienced using ebay.
The buyer came out aggressively and said I must honour the bid.
I wonder if others have had this experience.

The new ebay. Buyers dont have to pay and sellers dont have to send.
--------------------------------------
I have to admit you made me laugh.
I suppose it has always been true though.
I used to sell years ago and we did strike a couple of buyers who just never paid, never even communicated, come to that.
And I also struck a couple of sellers (back before paypal) where I paid and the items were never sent. Mind you, I was under the impression back then that a seller or buyer with 3 strikes would get kicked off and to be fair, those who didn't send me my goods did disappear off ebay soon after.
This buying and selling then reneging is not meant to happen but it seems to be a bit rife.
If sellers would list at the price they expect and if buyers would only bid on stuff they really intend to pay for it would be better.
Oh for a perfect world.

Quote: "The new ebay. Buyers dont have to pay and sellers dont have to send."
I was going to add "... and ethics are completely optional".
But noting that kudos is mostly being left in this thread for those who are encouraging sellers to not obey the rules, and to ignore the contract they have entered into, I guess that now it should be "...and Ethics are actively discouraged."
A very sad commentary on how Australians now view their business and personal obligations.

5kazam says "All of the above posters who say OP should honour the sale have obviously NEVER been subjected to a NON PAYING BUYER - you know the ones who enter into a legal and binding contract by bidding on an item - but don't pay. "
I am honoured that you think that in almost 17 years of selling on Ebay that I have never been subjected to a Non Paying Bidder, but unfortunately what you see as "obvious" is actually a bit misguided.
It turns out I am just a bit old-fashioned and don't actually see that if someone has failed to honour a contract with me, that that would somehow negate my obligation to honour a contract I have entered into with anybody else. I also don't see it as "grossly unfair" to suggest that someone should honour the contracts they have entered into, but even then, it is their choice as to whether they honour their contractual obligations or not.

I agree with you.
Totally sick and tired of non payers.
All my items are fixed price, so no chance of them getting carried away in an auction situation.
Recently someone "bought" six items from me for $1170
2 weeks later, nothing, no payment, no contact, no answer to phone call or emails.
Looked at their feedback and they are a serial non payer, my buyer requirements I have set did not stop them buying and wasting my time, or more importantly, taking six items out of circulation at potentially the best selling time of the year.
Just opened a case over another non payer for $100, 8 days after the sale nothing, no reply to emails, etc.
The OP thinks the item is worth $700, they made a mistake and don't want to sell it for $150
A difficult choice, their mistake, but $550 is a lot of money to lose over an error..

Hi
thanks for the support.
I feel badly burnt by ebay. I know it was partly my fault, but in another forum it may not have happened.
thanks for advice.
