I think a buyer has opened a case in an act of revenge

I sold a few records to a guy with 0 feedback. A month later he bought another record from me, but did not pay.

I sent him messages, but no response, so after a few weeks a opened a NPB case. With in a hours, he opened a case saying that he did not get his first order.

Due to the low dollar amount of the order, I was silly enough not to charge him extra for registered mail. (The order was sent as letter, so there is no tracking.)

I know what ebay policy is in regards to this, because i have no tracking number, I have no protection.

I just cant help but think that this guy got his records, and only opened the case in revenge , because I opened a case against him.

Also, do you think I should let ebay refund him the $12.00, or is it better for me to do it?

It is so frustrating, i send so many records out as letters, every body always gets their records. Why now, why has this guy not got his order? Just seems fishy.

You're in a no-win situation without tracking, so to save a defect you'd be better to refund before they ask eBay/Paypal to step in.

Add the buyer to your BBL, if they pay for the item with the NPB on it then pay for registered to save furthur heartache.

Thanks for the advise , I had forgotten to add him as blocked buyer. So I just did it.

I closed the case, in regards to the item not payed for.

I am now going to refund his first payment. I realise there is absolutely no way of fighting it.

So I am going to cut my losses and move on.

Thanks

I just refunded and closed the case, but it turns out that he only opened one case, so he only got refunded for one of the records.

It will be interesting to see what happens now. 😞

No worries, glad to help out.

Hopefully they won't pay for the other record and end up with a strike to their name....................

Just a thought, did you send to their address in Paypal?

Edit. If they're savvy they'll probably open cases for the other records as well.

Hi, yes I always send to the address that paypal provides.

I not only put my return address , but I also put my phone number.

Can I just ask, this defect that you mentioned. If you get one of these, how does it affect you?

Thanks

One defect wouldn't be a problem but if you get a number fo them it can affect your selling limits.

I'm not a seller so I don't know the percentages where it starts to be a problem, hopefully one of the sellers here will come along and enlighten us on that.

Slightly O/T, but this is exactly the kind of reason why I really (really) wish ebay would introduce a simpler option to just cancel an order due to non-payment (still blocking feedback etc), rather than creating a massive hoopla about it, calling it a dispute, making it take (minimum) 8 days, and sending emails to the buyer threatening account sanctions - when someone doesn't pay for one of my items, all I wanna do is get a credit of the fees and move on. If ebay gives them a strike, still - fine, but don't involve me in it! Smiley LOL

Unfortunately you're between a rock and a hard place on eBay, in so far as this is concerned - did the buyer ever leave feedback or provide any other kind of indication of receiving the items? If they did, you may be able to pursue the issue outside of eBay, if you really wanted to.

An INR request doesn't give you a defect, but if you don't resolve it (in other words, if you don't refund, prove delivery, or get the buyer to close the case), then the buyer can escalate the case to eBay, in which case it will invariably be found in the buyer's favour, resulting in a 'case closed without seller resolution' defect. You're allowed a maximum of 2 (or 0.3%, whichever is higher, generally) of those before it can affect your account standing. The other type of defect (canceling an order due to being out of stock) is a little more 'generous' than that, however the maximum (combined) percentage of defects you can accrue before you fall below standard is 2%, so if a 'case closed...' defect accounts for say 1% and you have a couple of OOS cancellations as well, they may limit your selling activities, and/ or put 21 day holds on payments, until the standard goes back up.
