So if a particular seller was in dire need of that cash - and had no idea about complaining to FOS to obtain a release of his funds, how would they initiate the release?
How about the 'inconvenience' of a buyer who is entitled to a refund but has to wait much longer if there is not enough in their Paypal account to cover the payment?
Inconvenience? The buyer has the ready cash to invest in the article in the first place - whereas the seller may well be under financial hardship.
What about the inconvenience to Paypal who have to pay the refund out if there are not enough funds in the seller's Paypal or bank account to cover it and they have to chase up payment?
Oh, poor, poor, paypal. Imagine a multinational corporation, being hard done by by a paltry few payouts - (which they'd recover sooner, rather than later - by fair means or foul!).
In every case where the seller has complained to the Ombudsman their funds have been released so if anyone is in financial hardship then the inconvenience of a couple of minutes initiating the complaint must surely be well worth it.
Yes. But does EVERY seller know to come onto these boards to find that information out? Methinks not! And I'm unaware of the details being indicated either on ebay or paypal's websites...
None of us are privy to the circumstances surrounding this individual transaction, so best not to conjecture. After all, we are all letting our personal feelings infect our judgement.

If you have been selling for 8 years and this hold is on a new account, lodge a dispute with the FOS and explain in the complaint that you have a longstanding, excellent record, yet you are being treated like a brand new seller.......when you're not. My friend had that exact problem and within 3 days of lodging a complaint, all his held funds were released and he was exempted from any future holds.
