Invitation to uTest Apphance!

You have been invited to test eBay for Android - BETA on uTest Apphance!

An uTest Apphance account has been created for you by eBay Mobile Beta Program to help you get started.

Then there is a button to "Finish your Signup". Of course don't clcik that!!

Has anyone else got this on their PayPal email account address?

Looks like some kind of scam material I would think

"Also In 2012, uTest acquired mobile development tool, Apphance, an easy-to-use web platform for developers to view crashes, bugs and user feedback. Developers use Apphance to gain insight into how an app is working and the appeal factor, while still testing, so that when an app is launched to the public the majority of issues are worked out."

But whether the email is, is another question.

I got a second follow-up email from them this morning explaining how to download this uTest app to you phone/tablet etc.

And it says right in the email that you have to disbale your installation security and allow installation from a site other than the app store. 

Just all seems a bit risky to me.

So we won't be accepting their offer or clicking on any links.

A random invite to install software so they can get info from you on bugs.

Just think what else they could be doing.

oK, so I realise the importance of testing...but...you were wise not to blindly jump in.



If you are interested in helping out, you could try running it past eBay to see if:

They are updating their App for Android, and testing it through uTest

If they have issued these invitations


Then they will know there is a scam running, if it is a scam 😞

You do not as a rule get paid for beta testing...

The thrill of getting your hot little hands on the latest version ahead of the general public is meant to be reward enough 😛

You may have received an email from uTest Apphance during the past week inviting you to be an eBay mobile beta user. This email was sent out by eBay, and is not spam. We proactively reached out to our top mobile users in 12 different countries asking if they would like to be part of our eBay mobile beta program to help us build and improve on our eBay apps. Participation is voluntary, and requires the acceptance of a non-disclosure agreement. 

If you received the email and would like to be an eBay mobile beta tester, please follow the steps outlined in the email from uTest Apphance:

1. Open the email from uTest on your mobile device
2. Tap “Install”
3. Create a password for your new Apphance account and tap “Sign up”
4. Fill in fields for NDA acceptance and tap “Accept”
5. On the next screen, tap “Download” to download & install the eBay beta (Android users need to tap on the downloaded file in the top pulldown menu or in the Downloads folder)
6. Launch the app and use as you normally would
7. When you want to leave feedback or report an issue, simply shake your device and tap “Report a Bug” or “Give Feedback"

If you have issues installing, please respond to the email address provided in the uTest Apphance email from eBay.
