Is it safe?

Just a quickie for all you experts out there.

Have had someone wanting to pick up one of my bigger items tomorrow and do bank transfer while they are here.

Rather sudden IMO.

Lets say I check my balance and funds are there, they leave with the goods, is there some way they can reverse the transaction minutes later?

I have never accepted bank transfer before. TIA.

A bank cheque cost $12 last time I got one (about 18 mths ago).

Some building societies allow 2 free bank cheques a month if you have an account with them.

As an aside, my local Westpac is open of a Sat morning. Not sure about the rest of the big 4 as I don't have accounts with them.

Re: Is it safe?

I'm pretty sure that the CBA is also open on Saturday mornings at the large regional shopping centre which is not too far from where I live. As is Suncorp, although they're not classified a being one of the big 4.

Re: Is it safe?

They wanted to pay by business cheque and I said needs to be a bank cheque.

So apparently they have bank cheque tomorrow but want to meet in cafe somewhere. Smiley Frustrated

Will let you know what happens. Thanks for asking, amber. Smiley Happy

A cafe ???

If the item is small enough to be transported, meet at the bank.

Re: Is it safe?

Would be better at a cafe wouldn't it? Have a table to sit at, room to inspect item/cheque etc.

For safety reasons people are advised to meet strangers at cafes etc, rather than in places where there will only be themselves and one other, so the buyer may not want to be alone with a person unknown to them (seller) at his home

Re: Is it safe?

am*3-I'm concerned about the cheque and the possibility of fraud, otherwise I'd totally agree re the cafe.

Whole thing sounds a tad odd based on both Kopes original post and update post. JMO

Re: Is it safe?

foxy, your right, sounded odd to me as well especially when I was given the phone number and texted only to have someone text back saying you have the wrong number.

But she just texted the right number with one digit changed (obviously a mistake) and has said I can deliver to their home tomorrow and they have cash instead.

If I don't return here tomorrow night, send out the cavalry. Smiley Very Happy

That's not a bad idea, meeting at their bank. I'll remember that for another similar circumstance.

am, I think you are spot on, initially she didn't want anyone at the home and didn't want to go to mine alone.

I'll post result tomorrow.

Re: Is it safe?

Cash is a good outcome 🙂

the phone number thing can happen. A few months ago I was receiving dozens of calls accepting wedding invites 😮

after two weeks of this, a guy called me to say, oops, his mobile had one digit different to mine. Mine was on all the printed invites 🙂

(I had been telling the callers it must be an accident and they should call the wedded-ones-to-be directly at a known number)

Very pleased. Thanks all for the good suggestions.
