Is signature on delivery worth the extra cost????

As a buyer I was shocked to see an item I had delivered was showing on the postage label as Signature on Delivery required (seen after I had the parcel handed to me and postie had left) which had also been highlighted by the seller and I was handed the package and was NOT asked to sign for it.

I contacted the seller and let them know this as well.

As a seller if I paid for signature on delivery no matter if it was at the buyers expense or mine, I want to get what was paid for.

Are any sellers being advised by their buyers that no signature was asked for when it had been paid for?

What is the point in charging or paying for it if it is not going to be done by the postie?

Hi minimikimusic,

I'm sorry to hear that you have not received a response from us for such a long time. That does seem like an unusual amount of time though; generally our email enquiry charter is 48 hours. Can you please let me know what your reference number is so I can take a look at this for you?

Roxy

I got rid of the email long ago I'm afraid, was sick of waiting.

Is signature on delivery worth the extra cost????

Hi kustom-65, deja_vu_items and viewmont1071,

Thank you for sharing your thoughts. As Alice has touched on, if a signature on delivery is purchased then a signature should indeed be obtained on delivery to a person at the address, and this does not mean it is necessarily signed for by the person the parcel is specifically named on the parcel.

If the parcel was delivered to an incorrect address, then Australia Post would need to be contacted as soon as possible so an investigation can be put through, and the driver spoken to so we can find out what happened and rectify the situation. If the addressee or you believe that mail has been stolen after delivery then the police would be best to contact so they can follow up.

It is important to keep in mind that if something does not go smoothly with the delivery, for example no signature is obtained or the customer states they have not received the item, then the sender will need to contact us so an enquiry can be put through so we can find out what has happened. In the instance where the article was delivered without a signature when one was purchased or it was delivered incorrectly (or not at all) then we will assess compensation up to the limits of the service used, and any extra cover that was purchased in conjunction with the signature.

If you need to view a copy of a signature that is not a problem at all. Simply contact us on 13 13 18 or via our website here http://auspo.st/17VvD1L so we can source it and get back to you.

I hope this has helped clear some things up.

Roxy

Gday Roxy

So I will just ask one more time.

Can you provide me with a link to the terms of conditions of the signature on delivery service you advertise?

I believe that not only is a signature offered but also the printed name of the person that signed

... ie an indeterminable mark ala Mr Squiggle with no reference to who Mr squiggle is is useless to me... and therefore so is your service

Can you provide me with a link to where I can find this advice???

It's not that I dont believe you

A quote from your post below

keeping in mind that this thread is discussing the signature on delivery service... and not just positive delivery of an item

How would a customer know whether a signature has been collected, even though they paid for that service, without checking with AP for the signature EVERYTIME  they choose to pay for the SOD service?

It is obvious what has happened in this situation. The customer has paid for a service and that service was not provided????

Is signature on delivery worth the extra cost????

So what I am getting at Roxy is that if I pay for a signature then I want a signature everytime and when I paid for that servcie

I requested a signature and paid for that privilege and do not see the need  to request it again.

If you cannot do that then I believe that the SOD service you supplied to me and still offer is not and was not of merchandiseable quality and I think so will the SDepartment of fair trading

Hi viewmont1071 ,

You can take a look at information about our Signature on Delivery service here http://auspost.com.au/parcels-mail/optional-extras-domestic.html which simply states that the service will capture a signature on delivery. This does not suggest or imply that a printed signature is included.

I can assure you that our delivery officers and contractors are instructed to capture a signatory name as part of the standard delivery process for signature items, and when this does not occur, we can address it once we have been contacted, but as the service description provides, this was never explicitly offered or inferred. If you would like to view the signature after it has been captured, then you simply need to contact us and we will be able to look into it for you and provide the signature.

Specific information regarding the signature on delivery service is not outlined in our Terms and Conditions here http://auspost.com.au/terms-conditions.html as the delivery and compensation processes are sufficiently outlined in the contents.

Oh that is gold!!.

Would that be "at the discretion of Australia Post"?

Don't forget that we pay $2.95 for the electronic signature and should at least receive a copy of it in an email.

"but as the service description provides, this was never explicitly offered or inferred."

I think I've got this right -

So, this means that the service - Signature on Delivery - neither describes nor implies that signature on delivery has been explicitly offered or inferred.

I would posit that "Signature on Delivery" explicitly offers a signature on delivery service, no inference required. I would also posit that any SOD delivery that doesn't collect said signature would be subject to a refund of, at least, the SOD charge.

Think about it, Roxy. And then maybe talk to your boss about it. If I EVER send something SOD and S is not obtained, I guarantee you that AP will get a request for refund. Regardless of whether or not the recipient received the item. Because that is not the point. You charge for a service - if you don't provide the advertised service (explicit or not), then you abrogate your right to keep the payment for the non-provided service.

Like I said way up there, your employer is setting themself up for a hammering from the relevant ombudsman.

Aus Post staff should become spin ( BS ) doctors for politicians.

Is signature on delivery worth the extra cost????

Gday Alice and Roxy, Thank you for the confirmation.

I train sellers to use ebay so I will be advising them to request a copy of the signature after delivery every time they pay for the SOD service....... everytime

Yesterday I made a complaint on your 131318 number and today I will be requesting signatures for every item I have sent SOD.... I would caome back early from lunch if I was you beecasue I will be recommending to every seller I know to do exactly the same

....... every time they pay for SOD

I would also note that if the item is carded and returned to a depot or outlet for pick up that the identity *printed name) of the recipient is also be checked/ recorded

ie..... it will either be the addressee or if the card is endorsed by the addressee it will be their agent and their name will be printed on the card.

Can you confirm what I will receive if the item is carded and returned to an outlet please?

ie. Your staff collect a printed name/ checked that ids bonefide and alos collect signature at the point of counter delivery.... so why can't I as the customer have a copy also???

So that it appears a greater form of security protocol is afforded when an item is carded as opposed to specified address delivery

Can you verify this???

I will be also advising those that I train that Australia posts Mr Squiggle signature on delivery is not worth the paper that it is printed on and I will now definitely ask the dept of fair trading the same thing
