Is this creepy?

I just sold a camera I had and looked through the buyers feedback. There was quite a lot (over 30) old, used memory cards and maybe 7 or 8 used cameras along with a few vintage nudist magazines... Am I right in thinking that the buyer is trying to recover deleted photos from these? My description said that it was used for a school project a long time ago. I know I can't really do anything about it but just wondering if I have the right or wrong idea here...

I don't know much about digital cameras but if your camera doesn't contain a memory card ( it's called an SD Card isn't it ? ) then nothing is being stored in it. The buyer may or may not be a collector although you expect collectors to buy old film cameras. I can't tell you if they are up to anything or not and it may not be an offence to access people's photo's regardless of the subject matter.

Re: Is this creepy?

Any bloke who is interested in girlie mags is unlikely to also be interested in school photos I also doubt if they would go to the expense of buying old cameras to try and recover pictures of somebody's school project, especially if you did not state what the project was. It could be a study of the growth cycle of a worm for all the buyer would know.

I have to wonder why you checked out a buyer's feedback to see what they have purchased, that seems a lot creepier to me than buying old cameras and soft pawn (sp).

Re: Is this creepy?

if you are that worried, replace the SD card with a cheap newbie. That way, your original SD card will be safe of any misuse.

Actually some digital cameras have in built memory in addition to the memory cards. Regardless of the buyer's intentions it would be sensible to:

1) delete/format the in built memory if you can (check the user manual or google for information)

2) completely format the xD card. Formatting the card isn't just manually scrolling through and deleting images. Data can/does remain on cards and can be accessed by certain methods and data recovery software.

ps I think your camera takes xD cards NOT SD so it may not be that cheap to buy a new one

gillians_gallery, I have the instructions for erasing the internal memory and formatting the card if you need them and you haven't posted the camera yet!

Re: Is this creepy?

If your camera uses an XD card then it might be similar to my old Olympic cameras and they both have built in storage and the really expensive one has 2 different xd cards in it.

Format everything, then use up all storage by photographing everything in the highest res as possible and then format everything and take photos again and then format again.

That way you should have removed the ability to undo the first format.

Just point the camera at a vase or a curtain or the carpet on the floor, just anything to take photos of or maybe just leave the lens cover on and take black photos.

I know that the big (as in dimensions) xd card is no longer available for the olympic camera.

Re: Is this creepy?

I would post the camera to the buyer. They've paid for it and it's your responsibility to get it to them in a timely manner.

I think you do have the wrong idea here.

Before you send the camera/card, why not load it up with watermarked photos of the items you sell on eBay.  Might get you another sale.
