I sold an item for $94 plus $16 postage. The buyer paid and I took it the PO office and paid $16 for postage. EBay released my funds $94, but after taking into account that I paid postage I was left with $78.. is this right?

It probably has to do with fees - 13.4% + $0.30.

It's correct.
And the buyer paid for the postage, not you.

IF your buyer paid the total price of $110, eBay fees would be around $15, so your payout should have been around $97.
IF, however, you sold the item for $94 including postage, the fees should have been around $13.
The concern I would have is that the buyer paid $94 not $110, according to you.
Check your numbers.

Thank you. That adds up - buyer paid $110 including postage, EBay took $15, leaving me $95 out of which I paid the postage. So if I had wanted $95 for the item I would have to to sell it for $110, plus postage. To make $95 I would need to sell it for $125.

Correct.
I am unsure why you thought you would get $95 nett selling for $95. eBay fees are easy to find and they have not, in the last few years at least, ever been 0%

All the more reason to ascertain the facts and fees PRIOR to listing.
