Hi, I sold two items to the same buyer and put the postage cost as Free Postage in both listings, so anyone in Australia would see it as Free. However in the listing description, I said that it's only Free in NSW but may cost more to post to other states, and to contact me afterwards and postage would be calculated.
I actually forgot that I said the last bit and after the buyer paid (with no contact), I marked it as posted. Do I have any rights here, in the case of postage possibly being quite expensive since they are in another state?
Thanks very much.

NO-free postage is free postage.

No you don't have any rights, you cannot manipulate searches by offering free postage and then saying there will be a charge if it is not local. You can never charge more than the quoted cost unless the buyer asks for a delivery service you do not offer.
I am afraid you will just have to pay the cost of sending them out of any profit and if it costs more then you have learned an expensive lesson.

Why have you marked it as posted, if you haven't posted it ?:|

So anything stating to the contrary (for other states except the one I'm in) is null and void? That sucks... ๐
I'm not trying to scam anyone out of any money. Both items sold for postage cost only (if it was posted to NSW only) but obviously the costs may be higher outside of NSW, so anything more will see me at a loss - potentially in the tens of dollars in postage alone. Here is what I wrote in both listings:
"Postage is FREE within New South Wales (which includes Signature on Delivery) but may cost a little bit more for other states. Please contact me after buying and postage will be calculated."
The buyer made no contact and paid Free postage but they are in another state.

There was no profit... lol... the items sold for $9.99 each (with Free post, which was MEANT just for NSW and STATED as such), which included Registered Post. Normally I may wear it but I've dealed with this past buyer before and don't want to spend any of my money on them. Oh well... I probably will end up doing that... ๐
It wasn't my intention to manipulate search results. I just found that way to be the easiest and I did specifically say to contact me afterwards in another state. Can't be anymoe simpler than that. It was all outlined in the listing.

Like I said, I forgot that they were in another state and was going to post it today, less than 24 hrs after they paid, with all tracking uploaded, etc.

Really the only terms that matter are ebays
perhaps ask the nice people how to put the postage calculator into youir listings if you dont want to offer a flat rate

It is best to have a postage price in the space provided as you can all ways refund the postage if you want to.

I think you if check the Australia Post site and the postage rates to interstate you will find that it will cost the same to anywhere in Australia and if it is the two DVDs you have sold why send them registered
