Item posted then tracked to recipient's work address, buyer claims no show

Hi some ideas / advice from other sellers please, this has not happened to us before. We posted an item with tracking to the seller's address (his workplace) as shown on ebay. He claims not to have it , even though he saw the tracking steps showed it HAD BEEN delivered to his workplace.

We also checked the tracking steps via Aust Post website and according to the final step it WAS delivered to his workplace.

So, as far as we are concerned, we have followed correct procedure, as has Aust Post; is there any requirement of us to reimburse him for a parcel which appears to have 'disappeared' once it reached his workplace?

Thank you

It sounds as though it's somewhere at the buyers work place.

I guess you didn't have signature required on this one.

Personally, I would be suggesting to the buyer that he needs to find out who took delivery at the work place whilst you check with your post office if they have any further info on how it was delivered.

I have just found another similar post to mine, and I can't understand why it becomes the problem of the seller, if it tracked as received, particularly at a workplace; one would assume it was handed over to someone in person (eg reception) or picked up at a PO among other work mail/parcels. Given that it was delivered in another state, I also feel the recipient should find it easier to make enquiries from the relevant local PO rather than me. Oh well, will have to wait and see what transpires.

If they paid by PayPal and make a claim for Item Not Received then you should be protected as a seller because of the trackable postage.  PayPal may still refund them, but it would be a discretionary payment and not refunded out of your funds.

If the tracking shows as delivered then I would not be refunding.  i would tell them to take it up with whoever accepts postal deliveries at their workplace.

If a buyer opens a not received item case with PayPal, provided they paid with PayPal, and seller cannot prove delivery, then in most cases PayPal will see in favour of the buyer to receive a full refund.

Nearly always it is better to charge a few extra dollars to have the proof PayPal require, registered or click and send. But have heard recently that PayPal will approve other forms of proof, however that seems to not be written into their terms yet.

Having proof protects you, the seller.

On saying that, I recently had a buyer not open a case as he could see I had sent it.

I am confident Aust Post can provide more precise info with the delivery.

What kl1ooo said.

If the buyer specifies their work address then it up to them to ensure they get it.

Unless there is a signature there is no absolute guarantee that anything is delivered to the correct address, and not dropped off at a different address. Even if you have paypal protection.

Work places can be bad at ensuring employee actually receives the item once delivered

The point, lane-ends, is that the seller only has to prove postage to the nominated address to qualify for Paypal seller protection.

What happens after that is AP's province. Admittedly it would be a lousy seller who washed their hands of it, but they still have no PP liability if they post using a compliant method.
