I tried to print a label for an item I sold to Germany but when I reached post code,, it had been automatically filed in. I couldn't move past this so I surmised that the number (I think 5 digits) wasn't accepted. This meant having to hand address the item and take it to the PO. Any ideas or advice?

One last thing (and I've just confirmed this with a German resident I was talking with earlier today) absolutely make sure yoลพรขโฌ ลกรโก x+ q0%รยบรยบ ร ยก||eร,รยฐร *lร ยจร ยฅ$vรโyร ยกรยฑ tรยณnรยฑร ยธ y รยกรขโฌล r0 $Hรรขโฌยกv รโssB รล Bรโฌรยฆ รโ qรยฎรยผรยถ:รยทZรหรthe parcel is guaranteed to be delayed, if not confiscated.

Ummmm... I don't follow the symbols . Are you joshing me? And I believe I misconstrued your original response which I now think was a wry comment. Sorry.,mate. And I probably do need a bit of spoon feeding. I'm getting over a stroke (sort of ) and I'm 82.

Yes, I was joshing with that last comment. But I was serious with the writing neatly bit, especially the digit '1' and the digit '7' if they feature in the address. In some regions of Germany their '1' is written in a way that looks like a '7' to us, so if hand addressing you want to to make sure they're clearly distinct:
I apologise for the spoon-feed comment - although intended only in a metphorical sense, your comment has reminded me I do take my uninhibited mobility for granted at times. Unfortunately this means I'm just as likely to find my foot in my mouth as my spoon (another metaphor).
