Hi All,
Taken aback by Ebay. Here is the thing- did you know ebay does record a defect on late shipments even when you have made a "seller away" notification. I had transactions happenning when I was on holidays. On my return from 3 weeks holiday-i sent all packages as normal.Unbeknown to me, all purchases I sent after 3 weeks- despite a notification on ebay's seller away policy- I attracted late shipping defects and now ebay have restricted my account to a few hundred listings a month as my account is deemed "below standard'.
How can that be when I have used ebay's portal to inform buyers "seller away" with dates etc. When a seller is away it simply means that! ie cannot ship items untill one's return.I have appealed this to no avail
Any ideas??

What you have stated is simply not correct. When a seller has time away, the "post by" date is automatically changed to the day of the seller's return + the seller's handling time.
Sellers do not get defects for late shipment if they post before 11:59pm on the advertised date.
Sellers will however, receive late shipment defects for any item the buyer flags. On the buyer's "leave feedback" page, they are asked "did this item arrive on time" and given the options of "yes" or "no". If they select "no", the seller receives a late shipment defect. The only way to have this type of defect overturned is to provide tracking which shows delivery was completed prior to the latest expected delivery date.
If the seller sent as untracked mail, the defect stands.

My idea, which works for me, is to extend handling time to cover the time I will be away.
It can be done in bulk and takes about 2 minutes for my 2000 items.
I have a store, so that might make a difference. I also don't use holiday mode as I am never away for more than a week.

I had an item not received dispute from a buyer, parcel did have tracking, but Aust Post lost the parcel or delivered to an incorrect address and the postie didn’t scan it as delivered. I lodged an investigation with AP and kept the buyer in the loop. When AP confirmed they lost the parcel I immediately refunded the buyer.
Just happened to check my performance a few months later and eBay slapped me with a defect stating Case closed without seller resolution. Yet when I go to the item dispute page it clearly states I refunded the buyer. Go figure 😡
