We post our items the next day, some items are taking 2 weeks to be delivered, they postage prices are the highest in the world, and they are slow like a dead snail, but we don't have a choice, i don't think its very fair that has a new (Late shipment rate)
this really needs amending ASAP.....

The buyers are not the ones leaving late shipment defects, it is Australia Post.
Australia Post are not the bad guy here, it does not leave late shipping defects. The "carrier reported" late delivery defects are simply based on tracking events. Nobody asks AP if the item was late, eBay simply checks the tracking record and if delivery shows after the estimated date AND there is no lodgement event within the handling time, then this is classified as a carrier reported defect. If you don't post with tracking, any defect will be dependent on the buyer ticking yes to the on time delivery question. These defects will always show as "buyer reported".

I just received feedback from a buyer in QLD. She bought a book 8/2/16 which I posted the very next day. According to eBay, she should have received it 12/02. It arrived 19/02. Ten day journey for 1 book!! It had a better holiday than me.Thankfully she didn't trash anything too badly
on me and no defects are showing up.
I haven't changed my handling times as everyone else seems to have received everything quickly.
Sigh.... it had to happen though!

I am not asking ebay for trouble, i am asking ebay why they have holiday settings that allow the option to keep my shop open while i am away, without addressing the fact that this third party cannot make an informed judgement on my standards as a seller under these circumstances, and has been allowed to ruin my good ratings ? I am not sorry to say it, but this is not my fault.
This is the issue there own systems set you up for failure.
eg streetbox lodging is still in their shipping instruction as a method yet it can earn you defects..how is that fair?

Hello Penny,
Thank you for your in-sights, I did not really know how this Carrier Late Shipment defect was generated, so thank you.
In my case where there have been so many shipment defects recently whilst i had holiday settings enabled, surely with just the click of a button ebay could easily cross reference this information and update it in-line with a sellerโs holiday settings to avoid this mess ? Or am I assuming too much here ?
As I stated, and as ebay requested, i submitted all the late shipment defect details to them so they could investigate and rectify these unfair defects before degrading my top seller rating.
This did not transpire, unfortunately for me.
However Penny, I do still hold AP as much to blame in this matter.
In my experience, AP is still the most inefficient and incompetent carrier.
I ALWAYS send SOD Registered Post within Australia,as per ebay requirements for tracking, and occasionally this tracking works.
BUT, have you ever checked your tracked items during and or after delivery ? The information listed is Spartan to say the least, and never shows the scanned in date after delivery.NO proof of postage for the seller if a problem arises.
I have had this problem with ebay many times in the past, AP tracking more often than not only shows the day before delivery and the day of delivery.
More often than not it does not show when an item was โscanned inโ, which is how ebay determines the day of posting.
One case where AP took three weeks to deliver a small parcel from Sydney to Melbourne, and the AP tracking only shows day before and day of delivery. As requested by ebay to prove date of postage, I provided ebay with the Post Office receipts clearly showing date of postage and payment, including the buyerโs postcode, etc. I also provided the official AP handwritten consignment note with the buyerโs name, address and date of posting with an official AP date stamp, and this still would not suffice. Ebayโs answer ? This was still NO proof of posting, they were only interested to know when it was scanned in. AND, they wanted ME to tell them when this was ? Huh ?? What am I , APโs yes man ?
Why do we even still bother, let the defects fall where they may is what is happening, and I am sorry to say they will continue to add up.
The point here is that AP does not really track an item efficiently, they scan items out, and then get signatures on delivery, they should not call it tracking unless they scan items in first, and make this information available to all that require it.
If they do scan an item in, it never shows after delivery (why not ?), and as you stated, this is how ebay determines the date of postage.
The fact that a buyer is allowed to be asked if their item was delivered on time is an arbitrary piece of information, as you will see from the case I stated in my first post. This is not an indication of anything really,(expect maybe the incompetence of the carrier) and often leads to more unjustified transaction defects.(for the record, I always tick yes for delivery on time on items I purchase. Why spoil another sellerโs day for no good reason ? We all live in an imperfect world, thankfully)
Efficient and Trackable Tracking is all that is required, yes?
Why doesnโt ebay assist us, canโt they see that we have serious concerns ? Do they care ? How hard can it be to fix this issue ?
We all have more important things to worry about.
If I was to allow myself to become cynical, I would surmise it was being done on purpose, but I wonโt go there
Now, let me go back and count how many more late shipment defects I have received today, ha..
Honestly, I am at a loss to find some sense, let alone some justice in this flawed system of assessing a sellerโs performance standards.

Do you use Ebay labels or other method? If other method then tracking shown on Ebay is incomplete, you need to get complete info from AP website. As far as scanning in is concerned you need to stand there at the counter and see the scan being accepted. Often it does not read first time and I suspect that is one reason in transit scans often dont show as the worker will give it a quick scan and as three is no one watching just passes it anyway regardless.
When printing labels turn off any draft/tone saving option on your printer so you get the boldest print to reduce scanning difficulties and insert label so barcode is to center of parcel not edge, this also makes scanning easier.
Its almost like armed robbery is ok, just as long as you dont overstay the parking meter whilst doing so. Ebay have their priorities totally screwed.

They were soliciting feedback for the last few months before this system was introduced. Wasn't that supposed to be for positive input for the benefit of all ? Sheeshh, what was I thinking :o=)

As stated earrlier, my item was posted to the UK with tracking and the courier noted as parcel as 'late shipment'. I posted this the same day as paid and still I get a defect. This took less than 2 weeks to arrive, it should be 5-10 days, too much is spent at customs.
eBay should be checking if the seller posted within the correct handling times before issuing a defect. Otherwise, their help contact will be filled with too much garbage (e.g. Sellers who posted same or next day after a paid purchase).
If if international is slow, what is the point of sending overseas.

All my parcels are put over the counter at the PO and the tracking numbers are on the receipt with the buyers post code. Occasionally I will post with a satchel as it works out cheaper for the buyer and when they scan it in, they give me a lodgement scan receipt. They scan it when I buy it, then scan it again when I hand it over.
I also use "My Post" which uploads the tracking number into your My Post account and also into the AP app on the phone. By the time I get out of the PO, my phone beeps to tell me the tracking number has appeared. When I get home I go into the app, where I have the option of giving each transaction a nickname. I add the buyers user ID and name. I get notified everytime there is a tracking event, e.g when it gets scanned along the way. I get notified when it's onboard for delivery today, if delivery wasn't possible, then when it's sent back to the PO, then when it's delivered/ collected.
I can save all those tracking events in case they are needed down the track for any reason. If you post with My Post, you hand your card over when you post your item and they scan it after each parcel. That's how the tracking gets uploaded automatically into your account and into the app. If I give the PO the buyers email address, they will also notify them that the item has been posted, then send them each tracking event (I haven't given any email addresses as yet).
In future, if you put your store on holidays, extend your handling time to 20 or 30 days. I know you shouldn't have to, but it will avoid all this hassle you're having with defects for late postage. Don't give eBay the satisfaction. They're never going to fix these glitches, so easier to just do whatever you can to avoid them. I would seriously look at setting up a My Post account too. It's free and so far I've found it to be quite efficient with keeping an eye on things. All the tracking details in one place. I'm not normally one that keeps an eye on tracking, but if the app/account is going to do it for me, then I'm happy for it to tell me what's going on!

I had holiday settings enabled while I was away, from about the 12th January 2016 until 3rd February 2016.An American purchaser bought and paid for his item on the 25th January.
...Did you hide your listings, as well as have the holiday setting enabled?
My understanding is that there are two separate steps. When you put your store in holiday mode, you have two choices - leave your listings visible or make them invisible. Although why anyone would put their store in holiday mode and NOT hide their listings seems asking for trouble.
Why on earth would you want to hide your listings while your on / in holiday mode.
Holiday mode clearly states that you are away until x time.
I've never seen a B&M store hidden when there closed for holidays.
