Low best offer bidders

Hi all,

Just wondering what you guys consider to be either a fair or insulting bid on best offer prices?

I have recently had a couple of offers at 50% of the buy it now price, which frankly i fend insulting, maybe I should toughen up, but frankly I cannot help feeling very peaved at such low offers. I have read people saying 10% off is a fair price, I would say 20% is a decent starting point, but half price is just horrific. I just blocked a couple of buyers because of the offers, as I would rather not deal with them, but what do all you seasoned veterans think?

I know what you mean, i was offered $400 for a $5000 item. They expected a 92% discount. what a joke.

Thanks for the laugh, ha ha ha, appreciate your sentiments, we just try not to take it personally when offers are ridiculous, and hang in there with a counter offer. But do understand your comments as that is sometimes our initial response too. That is why I go and water the garden or have a coffee, I find this does actually help a lot.

Yes, taking the time to walk away and do something else seems to take the sting out of the shocking offer, and also gives me time to think of a suitable reply other than what I would REALLY like to say. And do agree with you absolutely about BO option, there are times that we do move a bit and other times when we don't, many factors can influence our final decision on accepting offer or not. Everyones business is slightly different and we all have to do what we are happy with, and like you this works for us! Smiley Very Happy

I don't know I would ever block a buyer just because they put in a low offer, after all, it is up to you whether you accept it or not.

CQ had a buyer make an offer on a BIN item a couple of weeks ago (no best offer option). He rejected said offer, so the buyer bought it anyway and then trashed his stars. I find that reason enough to block someone. Sadly, due to the amount of irrational buyers on here these days and seeing how easily sellers get shafted, someone only has to look at me sideways and they're added to my special party list.

Good grief. I see where you are coming from now. That scenario honestly had not occurred to me. That's a mean act.

I think if I were selling something with best offer, I would put the auto thingies in place, where there was a price below which ebay would send out an auto reject notice, so I did not have to be personally involved.

I suppose if you get someone who is a little weird though, that might not stop them being vindictive.

I'm not taking the chance any more springy. Rejecting those offers cost me 2 defects so from now on, anybody making silly offers goes straight onto my BBL. I don't need sales that badly.

I actually think it is very rude of someone to make an offer on an item that is not listed as make an offer.

I would have thought that was against ebay policy to try to be making private deals.

I can see why you have your special list if you had someone do that to you, give a defect just to be vindictive. Weird to think someone is so obsessed.

The trouble is, I'm becoming paranoid as a result. Every item I've sold since then I've been sweating on getting good feedback even though I know I shouldn't have anything to worry about. I currently have 11 items awaiting feedback and I'm actually hoping they don't bother leaving any, which is of course completely ridiculous.
