From an email just now:
Coming at the end of April, we're introducing updates to improve our online marketplace and make selling easier. Learn more about the changes and what they mean for you below.
We’re updating our subscriptions for sellers who want more flexibility and control or who sell higher volumes.
This includes a new Pro Starter plan subscription for sellers who use advanced selling features, like multi-quantity and multi-variation listings.
Based on your usage of these selling features, we believe you’ll have the best selling experience with a Pro Starter plan.
Free selling |
We’re introducing free selling in late April for Australia-based sellers with up to $25,000 in sales annually. Eligible sellers will no longer pay transaction fees when they sell on eBay.com.au, across all categories.
Learn more about selling fees and how your sales are evaluated.
Free selling is intended for sellers with simpler selling needs and does not include access to advanced selling features or scheduled payouts. These sellers will have to buy labels on eBay for eligible items. A Buyer Protection fee will also be added to their listings and paid by the buyer to eBay.
Based on your current selling activity, you'll qualify for free selling.
You don’t need to do anything right now; we’ll confirm your eligibility in late April and explain how you can cancel the Pro Starter plan if you would rather take advantage of free selling. If you choose to cancel, you will lose access to the selling features available in the Pro Starter plan.

Trouble is Dave, I have an assortment of items with a variety of weights, prices etc all on the same ID(s). I think it's going to have to be pro Starter. Hopefully there's no time limit on that.....yet.

Ludicrous.
eBay are going to monitor fraud for extra payment, when they can’t even handle a legitimate report of obvious fraud now? Pfffffffft.
24/7 access to eBay staff? I don’t need that; there’s a little thing called Real Life. As for the presumed attraction of human staff, that’s nonsense. It’s almost tempting to get a thousand or so disgruntled buyers together en masse to have leeeeeeeeengthy conversations with these so-called live persons when a disappointing transaction requires intervention above and beyond a straightforward dispute. The shock and stress of a bad transaction… needing a shoulder to cry on… telling the story of “my aunt Belle O’Ney” who had a bad buying experience, the memories it brings up… We would be able to gauge just how many live qualified persons eBay employs, and just what security and trauma counselling experience they have. Oh well, interesting fantasy scenario. I merely amuse myself in a rather cynical way. After all, if eBay won’t handle a legitimate refund scenario properly, I’d be engaging for that refund through PayPal or a chargeback. And - let’s face it - wouldn’t be buying on eBay again since eBay is no longer in a position to play chicken with buyers who now have so many other buying platforms from which to choose.
As for the third “value-added benefit”, it isn’t. Secure transactions? Oh joy. Something so special and unique as that is sure to lure the punters. Or… one can just go anywhere else where secure transactions are standard fare.
eBay, eBay, eBay, in a long history of straws that broke the gnat’s back, I’m finding it hard to see how you came up with this, unless a bunch of the brightest executives had an extended drinking session, got completely blotto, and were too embarrassed (and dealing with hangovers the size of Jupiter) the next morning to rescind the decisions made in that state of drunken stupefaction.

Hello, I have just been reading about these latest changes.
Perhaps someone can clarify this for me please.
I stocked up on ebay pre paid satchels some time ago, to save myself money in the future.
Are they seriously suggesting that I will be unable to use these?
Most items will be in excess of this proposed $20 sale price.
If this is the case, I am out of here after 16 years.
What am I supposed to do with well over $1000 worth of pre paid packaging?
I do hope that I have misunderstood this.

For fee free you have to use eBay labels. For other postage options you need a Pro plan. The starter plan has FVF of 13.4% + $0.30.
The only thing you get free is the store. The FVF will be exactly the same as you're paying now.

For free selling, you "Must buy labels on eBay".
For "Additional postage options" (as in anything other than an eBay label), you require a Pro plan.
