We are really new to selling and these pages seem to be the best way to get help.
It's just a hobby I share with my daughter. Anyway.
I am trying to sell some thing with a buy now price attached after a couple of days I realised it wasn't listed and had send to online auction next to it. After opening the online auction tool it said one of my listing's is in violation of E'bay's policies. It seem's my starting price was $19.99 yet I only put in a buy it now price for $4.95. At no time did I put in $19.99 as a start price.
So I was wondering how could this happen?
What can I do about it? I tried to revise the item and my buy it now price is $4.95 and there is no starting price.
Will I get in trouble with E'bay ie. suspension of account etc.
So far we are having fun but I don't want it turning bad for her such as a suspension. She is only 9 and would be devasted as she has put alot of time into it taking photo's, editing them and listing the item's.

I didn't mean to put a dampner on your daughter entering the world of business. I just didn't want you to get into trouble.
I'm 100% in favour of teaching kids from as early as possible about business and the associated practises (I do it with my own), it's a good thing.
Tou could even go further by teaching her how to keep her account books - ie, what she sold an item for and the associated costs of doing so. (just as if it were a real business iykwim)
IMO, not enough kids learn or know how business really works.
There is nothing stopping your daughter working up the listing on something like Word, and then you do the actual input into eBay. I didn't mean to discourage you or her, I think it's great what you are both doing, and it's an invaluable opportunity for her to learn. (cos remember there will be disappointments like when you get tricky buyers, or other problems associated with selling) so I'd be letting her learn about these too.
so for example if you get a question or complaint from a buyer, show her and ask her how she would handle it. Guide her in the correct way, if need be, let her work up the responses on word and you just enter them. iykwim
Some people can go their whole lives and never really live for a single minute.

Sorry crikey
you didn't put a dampener on her or me you had some very good advice and we appreciated it
if it wasnt for people like you sharing their expereince these pages would be very empty
instead I have found all your post (that I have read) to be informative and sometimes funny ๐
Trust me if wasn't for expereinced sellers offering their free advice people like us would be left in the dark just grasping at straws.
All you did was see a possible problem that I didn't anticipate and told me about it therefore I changed the way we list.
She is still excited about selling and would have more for sale except we have reached our free quota for the month.
I only mentioned you cause I wanted you to know that I took your advice and changed the way we sell
sorry if it came of the wrong way I value your's and the other expereinced seller's advice.

I am not sure what your free listing quota is as a new seller but you can make it go further by listing for longer times.
I notice several of your relists were for 1 day auctions. That is a classic scammers tactic.....list for 1 day, grab the money and run. Also, it does not give buyers much time to find your items. A lot of buyers do most of their searching on weekends so a listing that includes a weekend is useful. The most popular seems to be 7 day listings....or at least the items I buy seem to be mainly 7 days. And don't list items to end on Friday afternoon as it is ebay's maintenance time and it is not uncommon for items to "disappear" for some time.

hi lyndal
thanks for the advice about appearing as a scammer we certainly dont want to appear as that.
as a new seller ebay gave us 40 free listing's but we could only list 10 at a time as we had sold some item's it reduced the amount of item's we could list. what was happening was I would list it then my daughter wanted to list something else so I stopped the listing to put the new one up i didnt realise people could see what i had listed and removed but I do now.
You mentioned Friday as a bad day to end listing's?
We had 3 end on Friday and we have not heard anything from any of the buyer's I just thought long weekend must of gone away. I am going to send them all an email tomorrow arvo to see if there is any problem's. Could the invoice's I sent have gotten lost during maintenance?
I will try and convince my daughter that it is better to have long listing's but she cant seem to wait, 7 days is a long time for a little girl.
We have learn't so much about ebay and how to sell from helpful people like you, it has certainly made my job easier. Our next listing's will be more descriptive, last longer and not end on a Friday.
We value any and all advice from experienced seller's.

If you attach a credit card to your account (you don't have to use it to pay for anything) you should automatically get 100 listings or $7,500 per month. That will well and truly cover your 40 free.
I have no children, so I'm talking from a very theoretical viewpoint here, but maybe longer auction times will help teach the principle of delayed gratification. Especially if the items go for more than similar ones were on shorter auctions.

Thanks Dave
Didn't know that.
Will this allow me to list more than 10 item's at a time? Or does it still go by how many listing's have sold. ie: sold 9 and can only list one for the rest of the month.
At this point we are only selling on Ebay for fun.
But to have the option of having more listing's up at the same time would save a lot of our time we could list all of the item's she has for sale instead of waiting for one to sell before listing again.
Thanks mate it will be something to look into

It should give you 100 per month. Sell 9 have 91 still available. BUT if you use the 40 free you will most likely be paying $1.50 listing fees for any over the 40.

The official stance as per the fee structure.
Non-Store Package subscribers receive the first 40 Fixed Price or Auction listings free every month. Store Package Subscribers can take advantage of 80, 200 or unlimited free Fixed Price listings depending on the Package they choose.
Anything outside those parameters may have been the result of a short term promotional program and would be best confirmed with ebay personel in writing.

You also need to be aware of the ebay "limits" policies.
Have a read of these & make sure you follow the relevant links to other pages ......
