While I’m in here today I have anther question that someone might have a quick answer to, and save me more research. I’m already quite confused with what I’m reading.
We are capable of a lot of diversification and have the stock that would warrant opening an eBay Store (with name change), but we’ve been going fairly cautiously for reasons I think you’ll all understand.
My question is this: Are we able to firstly change our name with our current account? My reading indicates not a problem, but this is the one I’m not clear with - Can we then open a store with the new name and more or less transfer everything across form our current (name changed) account?
I’d prefer to do this than open a new account, or store, and start all over again. I can find plenty of info about opening a store, but nothing directly specific to what I’m trying to achieve.
Many thanks,
Melina.

PS....I should also mention that I have already opened an account with the new name (inactive), so if the above is achievable, I guess I’d need to close that account to use the name here, in change of this account??

If you've opened another account with a new name then you can't use that name with this ID you have

Thanks Kollector, do you know what the circumstances would be if I closed that account first?
This may be one that I need to talk with eBay about??

Your store name can't match a member's user name, even your own, so you need to open and name the store first, then change your user name.
If you already have another ID with the name you intended to use, you won't be able to create a store with this name, I'm afraid. A member account can be closed, but it takes much longer for the username to be deleted.
The best you can do is probably alter the name you want to use slightly - add in an acceptable special character, like the asterisk or underscore, or an extra word if it can fit (eg let's just say it was your other ID that's clubsquire, you should be able to open a store called club_squire, or club_squire_pipes, and then change your own ID after).
Edited to correct: I forgot store names can have capital letters and spaces, so it's really additional words that can distinguish between a user name and a store name. Apologies.

Many thanks Digi. You’ve saved me a lot of time - very grateful 🙂
And yes, I see the work around. I’ll give it a try.
Take care,
Melina

If you're looking at diversifying, just change your current user name and then 5 minutes after that, open a shop. You won't need to transfer anything - it's still all under your one account.
I used to just sell without a shop and used to have a different username.
About 3 years ago,I changed my username and a little while after that I opened a shop under the same account.

After reading the thread through again - if you have already opened another account - just change the name of that one to something random, which will free up the name for you to use on your current account.

New account names can't be changed for 30 days
