Could experienced sellers please give me advice on postage safety before I list (for the first time) a breakable item which will be priced at $175.00?
I will pack the item well, and suggest that buyer pays for 'signature on delivery' plus' extra cover.'
What are my chances for a safe delivery through Aust. Post?
Should I recommend that customers get their own courier service?
Should I only offer local pick up?
I would be grateful for your thoughts
Thanks

For the reasons Lane mentioned, I would box it up with all the required packaging (but don't seal it) BEFORE you create your listing, then use the AP postage calculator to work out shipping costs. If you are unsure of the weight, take it to the PO and get them to weigh it for you. Make sure you add on a few extra grams for the sticky tape.
Anything over small parcel rate will vary in cost from state to state, so you need to take that into consideration when listing the item as well.

Like Lane ends, i used to sell fragile antique glassware and porcelain, but no longer do so. The worry and risk associated with mailing expensive fragile antiques was not worth the stress. There are enough non fragile items available to sell with the same mark up, so I just trade in those instead.
