They don't think it is a joke, they just don't understand it.

When I first joined Ebay many years ago I believed that a 3 (being an average between the lowest and highest numbers) was a perfectly reasonable score for an average/normal transaction where everything went well and you would only give a higher score if the transaction was well above avarage in service and was far better than expected. Maybe your customer thinks this.

Perhaps they don't understand the impact of feedback or mayhaps they were just not overwhelmed by something in the transaction process and didn't feel it was good enough for a pos or bad enough for a neg.

If a silly grey dot on your computer screen bothers you that much why not drop them an email saying you are sorry they were not happy with the transaction and is there anyuthing you can do to rectify that, given that it is over 3 weeks since you received the feedback I think it would make you look a bit flaky lol.

this happened to me a while ago. Gave me great feedback but neutral.

I questioned her about it and explained how feedback works (she was a newbie) and she agreed to change her feedback

If any seller was to question me about a grey dot (which by the way i have never left) it would instantly turn to a big red dot. be careful what you ask for.

If you have a look at ebays feedback policies and information it still says that a neutral has no effect on a sellers account. With the new defect system this is clearly not correct and just another example of ebay not giving a ...... about sellers or maintaining and updating their site in a profesional way. How are buyers to know that they are damaging a sellers account when ebay leave innacurate information in place weeks after introducing the new defect system.

Apart from the fact that you would be unlikely to buy from me, a negative has the same impact as a neutral or any star less than a 4.

Which is a 'defect' for the seller.

You might think it won't impact on you, but I suspect most sellers will be more discriminating on who they sell to, and if you use this ID when you buy, you could well find yourself blocked by any seller who visits the boards.
