Ebay allow buyers 8 days to make payment.  After the first 4 days you can open an unpaid item dispute and then ypu have to give them another 4 complete days before you can close the dispute, get back your fvf, relist and add them to your blocked bidder list.

If any seller started emailing me about payment before the end of the third day (ebay send a reminder on day 2) then I would be tempted to leave it until 7 days, 23 hours and 55 minutes before paying.

Non Paying Bidder

Yes I have had a  recent one myself.

A newbie that has purchased nearly 70 items recently and appears to be only paying for some of these goods by the early looks of it.

Wonder if boredom over the school holidays contributed to this ??  Just a wild theory of course.

Non Paying Bidder

I've had experience with a buyer who gets carried away and buys more than she can pay for.  I learnt early on to be patient and it paid off because I got paid and all the sellers who opened non-payment cases didn't.  She's bought from me a few times and I always know what to expect now.

I'd much rather get paid in a fortnight's time than have to go through the bother of relisting stuff.  I've had a few people take a week to 10 days to pay lately and I accept the fact that some people are just a little slower.  I'd rather give them a few extra days and get rid of the stuff than hassle them for payment and maybe lose the sale.  People complain about lack of sales so I don't know why they don't give buyers a bit longer to pay.  If sales are slow, what does it matter whether the item is sitting in the "not sold" pile or in the "waiting to be paid for" pile?

Personally, if for some reason I didn't pay straight away and someone started hassling me for payment, I'd tell them to keep it!  Yes, non-payers can be a pain but I like to give them plenty of rope to hang themselves.  I wonder whether places like Target and Big W put your goods back in stock exactly 4 days after you fail to make a lay-buy payment...

you should open non paying bidder dispute against them. This will assist all sellers from these kind of buyers.

I suppose that is a seller decision, how long they are happy to wait for payment. Some people may be able to wait a couple of weeks, others may have had bad experiences after trying it and may prefer to follow a procedure after 4 days.

I don't know about layby stocks in BigW or Target but I can tell you one thing. If you want to buy anything on Catch of the Day, Groupon, Living Social, The Kathmandu online website or so on, you can put anything you like in the cart. You can go for your life.

But until the moment you pay, it is not yours. No ifs, no buts, no question of waiting.

There are very few places that work along ebay lines. There are a few cruise sites where you can book a cabin on a cruise without paying and they will hold that cabin for eg 3 days and they will take that cabin off the booking list for about 15 minutes while you are making that online booking, but I can promise you that at the end of that period of grace, if you have not paid your deposit, it is straight back on sale once again.

I think ebay will probably change over the next few years to bring it more into line with other sales sites.

For the record, I used to sell years back and like you, we used to wait for people to pay. I can still remember waiting a month for someone who bid on a set of car air fresheners. All of $2.50. Eventually the money did come through. Was it worth it (they kept saying they had paid & my sister had to constantly check and email them back). No. If it happened today, it would be straight to an unpaid item dispute after a week.

But... at the moment it truly is up to each seller to decide what is best for them I guess.Man Happy
