Unbelievable..Not one sale this Christmas week can you believe this?? sure delivery times etc etc but in previous years people have brought well into the last days of Christmas..despite not getting their purchase till after the day..this has easily been the WORST year we've experienced on E-Bay..and the line about they don't make money if you don't sell is a furphy...there is this thing called "Listing Fees" which add up when items are auto re-listed and despite the "free listings" Maybe one of my New Years resolutions is to learn about selling a different way and give EBay the finger.. This used to be such a great place to be now its depressingly awful..thanks EBay for a wonderful Christmas...

lyndal1838, you obviously haven't heard of the concept "turning off the lights" sounds to me like your are an iii informed ebay apologist..our comments are based on facts...not blame...and we aren't the only ones experiencing a huge downturn.. we are selling a diverse range of items, that are highly sellable and competitively priced..our sales compared to last year are way down to 50- 60%..

Unfortunately ebay's 'best match' search option now directs buyers towards the larger corporate stores and Chinese sellers before anyone else. Even hen you log in to eBay and begin a search, many other options come up in advertising now that lure you away from the smaller sellers and towards the larger sellers and sometimes even away from eBay. For example if one searches for a particular footy jersey or DVD, your screen is covered in multiple options for purchasing this item and most are directed away from the small guy.

I am not surprised that people this year didn't buy a lot in the last week before Christmas. I am more surprised to learn that in previous years they did.
I certainly would not have been buying anything online after about Friday 18th Dec, as it would be touch and go if they would arrive in time. To me personally, those last few days are for shopping in real stores if you want last minute items.
I bought well over half my things online this year, I did buy one item from ebay (in early Dec) but most of it was from other sites such as Catch of the day. I know ebay now has estimated arrival dates next to items but on Catch of the day it seems more legit, as you type in your postcode and it comes up with a message to say whether your item should arrive in time, and their estimates have been spot on.
To me, the time the big online sites should be pushing their sales is from mid Nov-mid Dec.

I think the biggest factor which will lead to a further decline in trading next year is the fact that we are in the very early days of world war 3. When the situation becomes worse next year the awful reality of what is happening around the world will really kill sales. Very often people will deny that anything is hapening until it's too late or be in such disbelief that they will go down with the sinking ship.
The media will try and distract people to hide the fact that things are getting really bad- a bit like the band on the titanic that played until the bitter end. Things like the new star wars movie etc are all just distractions to cushion the blows.
It all sounds morbid and i hope i'm really drastically wrong but there are too many signs indicating doom is nigh.

Yes our Dec sales are down on last year, however November was well up, so I presume buyers bought earlier this year. Both months added together we are up 13%. Suprisingly we had some sales Christmas day as well. We also took a casual lease in a vacant shop in a shopping mall for 4 weeks in December (as we usually do).....sales were ordinary for the first two weeks, then took a strong upturn for the week before Christmas. We finish on New Years Eve.....sales were ok today but nothing special, but no Ebay sales as yet.
