Not Sure How to Answer This?

On my other id I have sold an item as a BIN, postage cost quoted in listing, buyer has paid, with no questions or contact until I marked her parcel as posted, tonight I receive an email asking "do I refund excess postage"

I note that this statement is mentioned in her last feedback left.

Actual cost to me was $1.55 more than she paid, would like some help in how to answer this question, the right way.

I would be bemused by a buyer delivering a satchel, even if it was a return of a pickup item. And it still wouldn't satisfy Paypal.

As a SELLER, however, I have hand delivered items to buyers who live close to me. And refunded the postage in cash for those who insisted on paying for it. And worn the extra PP fees for same.

Customer service.

Oops!  I meant a seller charging for satchel delivery but delivering it themselves.  (Ah, the perils of late night posting!)

But you said it, customer service.  That's the kind of selling that's a credit to eBay.

Re: Not Sure How to Answer This?

There are many circumstances in which you can complain about how much something costs after you've decided it was worth paying anyway.

I wonder if there is anywhere other than eBay where what's divided into column A and Column B is the cause of so much outrage as to not just grumble about it, but condemn / neg sellers, demand refunds, even as little as the 10c difference between stamp cost on the parcel and what was charged (as I have heard been done before). If a seller lists as "free" postage and takes away those column headers but charges the exact same amount in total, maybe a little more, does anyone still feel like they've been "ripped off" in some way?

Don't get me wrong, I have said it on many occasions that I neither condone nor practice postage piracy, but the sheer amount of focus on postage prices is exactly the kind of thing that leads eBay to feel justified in introducing FVF on P&H (as they have in other countries), and all that will do is increase prices on eBay, of course the end result of that is that all buyers will pay more for items on average than they do now.

If eBay profits on postage, what does that make them? Certainly not a business charging fees for a service they provide....

Which I suspect is why we don't get charged FVF on postage. You have to provide some sort of service to charge for it in this country.

Doesn't that make you wonder how or why they're able to do so in other countries, though? I'd be surprised if there were not similar regulations in the UK and US.

Electricity / gas companines, mobile phone companies and ISPs (with the 'p' used ironically 😛 ) have found a work around for it here, and ebay aren't far off the mark with the branded satchels.

(I'm not suggesting some kind of convoluted conspiracy theory between eBay and AP, btw, just that FVF on P&H could be within the realm of possibility depending on how they go about it).

Re: Not Sure How to Answer This?

I bet I could do a forum search on at least one other ID and find that it has been used to post here by PJ, so before being so assertive if might be best to make sure what you claim is correct.

And, no I won't be "outing" the other ID.

Bump,I said ONE posting id-I'm sure regular boardies do the occasional oops over the years & post with their selling id/s.Is it really that important to be so pedantic ?

Perhaps we should stay on topic or at least give OP a laugh 🙂
