So I am fairly new to selling on Ebay. The background of this story -
I got a confirmed sale (buyer had paid for it) and hence received the normal email from Ebay. This email states that the buyer has paid and it is time to ship the product to the customer. So, I ship the product to the customer based on the address on the email sent to me. Two weeks later, the customer stated he didn't receive the product and having shipped off the product via stampage post, I don't have a tracking number. I manage to get in contact with the post man and he clearly remembers the post being sent to the address (due to the address being particularly hard to find). I check the Ebay platform and discovered there was a different address. I contacted the customer and he stated that the address in my email was in fact, his old address.
Now I contact Ebay directly to ask why there are inconsistences in postage address. I normally use my email as I find it to be more efficient than the platform itself. My help person from Ebay assumed that the email they sent me was only an indication of the buyer's interest in the product and that they had not yet paid. However, upon checking the email, the very title states "Congratulations, Garry! Your item sold and has been paid for." Only after I screenshotted this email and sent it to my Ebay helps person, they believed my situation. However, the only response I got was "No worries, we will take this as your feedback with our process."
Honestly, I find this really unfair as I have to ship out the product again, meaning costs for product and shipping. This incident had really occurred due to Ebay sending me incorrect shipping details and they had taken no action to even attempt to reimburse me, or to correct their mistakes.
My question - Is there something I could do to take this further? Am ombudsman perhaps?

Ok, let me put it another way - can you see the payment in your own paypal - and is the address for sending different?

If the buyer paid with paypal you must send to the address that the buyer has entered when they made the payment.
The address that ebay gives you when they notify you of the sale may or may not be the address they want the item sent to....which they notify you of when they pay.

digital ghost 'If the buyer uses "buy it now" they confirm purchase without paying and ebay pulls whatever address they have on file - they need to stop doing this' (sorry i forgot how to quote properly on here)
with all the purchases i've made on Ebay in the last year or so i seem to be required to pay immediately after buying on BIN items, is this dependant on the sellers settings? or is it something to do with my buying account? only auction wins leave me time to pay as set by the seller.
As a seller i always list BIN with the option of 'require immediate payment' unticked so buyers have a few days to pay....

There's actually 3 different reasons it can be required, unfortunately.
It can be the seller's settings, as some will require immediate payment through selecting that option with listings.
It can also be eBay - I have a number of listings where eBay has applied the immediate payment required setting and though I've tried to remove it multiple times, it always comes back and those listing have to be paid for immediately, even though the majority of my listings allow Buy it now without immediate payment.
And it can sometimes be the buyer's account, too - I don't think there's anything particularly consistent with regards to which buying accounts are forced to pay immediately and which ones aren't (i.e. it's not older or newr accounts as far as I know, nor does having any history with unpaid items factor in), but it's more common when using mobile devices.

so no real rhyme or reason then
I can understand why ebay might require it for higher priced items over $100 but most of the items i buy are under, when i think about it, i reckon its been about 3 years since i was given the option to NOT pay immediately for bin items.
I kept asking sellers to change their settings in the listings as alot do not have a combined postage rates setup for multiple purchases so then they have to mess around refunding me the difference in postage, luckily most have been willing to do so. If i wait to ask them BEFORE buying then i risk missing out on the item as someone else snaps it up.
Those pesky option boxes should NOT be ticked by default in every listing imho. And apparntly if you list with the app, (i always use the desktop version) it does not even give the option to delay payment for bin items, or so i was told.

I don't list with the app. I don't have immediate payment enabled. Yet, buyers of my BIN items are forced into immediate payment. It makes me angry, but there is nothing I can do about it.
