Opening a store - what are the pitfalls?

After all the recent changes to FVFs and listing fees, Iโ€™ve come to the decision to open a store.  I think the economics of my doing so are marginal but on the other hand I wonโ€™t have to worry about how many listings I create or renew each week, etc.  Plus I will be able to put on an out-of-office message if necessary.

As I understand it when I open the store all my current listings will automatically transfer over.  Will that include my drafts and ended listings?

Is there anything else I need to be aware?  I was caught out badly with the limited-monthly-listing changes and so feel the need to get second opinions.

Anyhow as I understand it I can withdraw at any time.  Presumably the reverse process re my listings would then occur.

Many thanks to the insightful patient people who respond to my queries.  j

Prior to opening my Store (yes I have!) I had many listings which were to be $1 FVF or similar.  Do you think those will carry over into my Store?  That is, will I still get the reduced FVF if/when they sell, even though they are now in my Store & presumably under a different regime?

what was in the small print of the original offer? Was it available to stores?

don't recall, but imagine that it wasn't. But I might ask the question of Ebay seeing as they went to some lengths to state that everything would be transferred over.

Re: Opening a store - what are the pitfalls?

I'd imagine that the fees would be whatever they were at the time you did the listings. In fact, I'm pretty sure it's the case that if you do a listing with normal fees of 10.9% and then you open a store, you'll still pay the 10.9% rather than the lower store fee if it sells within its first cycle but after you open the store. In other words, the terms at the time of doing the listing (or it rolling over) are what apply when the item sells.

re FVF promotions transferring over to the Store.

Yes they do!  I JUST sold something and then checked my account summary and it indicates that the Promo FVF of $3.30 has been charged.  This is so good.  It was one of reasons I delayed in changing over.

I asked ebay about this during a phone call, and the woman said they would carry over into the store.  This was about 60 seconds after she'd said they wouldn't, so I'm not betting on it. I'd been putting off opening a store til all my old $1 fvf's expire, but I have lots of stuff to list and relist, so might just go ahead anyway.
