There is a lot of conflicting information regarding the level of compensation that would be payable for lost or damaged parcels if the Signature on Delivery service is purchased for a parcel.
I can see that AP staffers have recently posted on other boards threads at this time - be great if you could respond to this one with clarification of the actual compensation level available with SOD - before you need to consider adding extra cover.
Is it $ 0
Is it $50
Is it $100
Is it something else ??
Thank You

after15 April due to the changes in service standards
That made me smirk... and not in a nice way. ;\
I'm glad you got an answer, and I'm (kind of) glad that it may be possible to qualify got discretionary compensation with flat rate C&S (I say "maybe" because I no longer have the capacity to take one AP rep at their word - I feel the overwhelming need to have it confirmed at least in triplicate by separate reps, and / or visible in black and white on the site, before I'll trust it :^O ).

Add to that, all options other than "leave in a secure location out of the weather" have disappeared from the delivery instructions, and I'm sorry but I have trouble believing it's a "glitch" - what kind of glitch makes all options but the one that virtually necessitates paying $2.95 for SOD if we don't want the parcel safe-dropped disappear, then can't be fixed for over a week and counting?
Yeah I sent a question to click and send about this... they said that pass on my concern about the options being removed.. but in the mean time.. they advised me to get the DO NOT SAFE DROP stickers from my local outlet...

if you think about Australia Post as a whole they must be losing money due to the horrendous influx of overseas parcels, these have to be delivered free as any money is paid to overseas postal services. My local p.o.has become a horror house with queues out the door of people picking up parcels, loads of them from overseas. Like all things in life it's swings and roundabouts, we want cheap items from overseas, Aus. Post is stretched to the max handling and delivering them, they need extra money and so the cost is passed on to us.

AP made $281 million profit last financial year.
They lost $70 million on the international parcels side so constantly slugging the Aussies paying their exorbitant bi-annual price increases has been used to regain that loss, plus plenty more.
Perhaps they should stop being so short sighted and actually work out a way to recoup some of the losses from OS mail, before there is no one left in Aus that can actually afford to send parcels?
The AP CEO is the highest paid government employee in Australia
Surely he can come up with something a little more long term than constant domestic price rises to justify his salary?

AP made $281 million profit last financial year.
And to further clarify that, their reported profit was AFTER they had paid the Federal Government a $213 million dividend.

The really telling thing about their profits is that international parcel deliveries are increasing, so you would think that the losses on that would likewise be increasing and continuing to affect their bottom line. But consider this, 2009-2010 financial year recorded a pre-tax profit of a 'mere' $103 million (Ahmed Fahour was officially appointed CEO 1st February, 2010), so since then AP has much more than doubled their profits because that $280 million profit is after tax.
And all that in this increasingly challenging environment we keep hearing about.

So, you have paid for SOD and tracking isn't even showing it as delivered?
That's not exactly getting what you paid for, is it?
