Hello, I’ve just sold an item on eBay and I’ve had an email saying payment has been made, but I can not see where the payment went. I requested it go through PayPal but I’m not seeing it in there. There’s a lot of changes on eBay, is there a chance the payment went somewhere else?

Have you signed up for Managed Payments?

Payments don't go to PP any more, but to your bank account (after you verified it as well as your identity).

100% the payment is somewhere else

PayPal has not been available for sellers for three years, you cannot request it go there

You needed to sign up to Managed Payments before you sold, which came in 3 years ago and was announced 2 years before that

If you did not fully complete sign up to Managed Payments (as all sellers had to) the money has nowhere to go

If you did happen to, the money will be on hold for 30 days as you are considered a new seller

All covered in the things you had to tick as having read and agreed to in order to list the item

You need to send the item within your handling time as well, even with funds on hold

I don't know what you will need to do 'now'  if you did not sign up to Managed Payments before you listed/sold the item in question to get that , so can't advise on that. It's something you have  to do before selling, not sure in the process of after the fact getting the money once you've done the Managed Payments requirements

You've been a member for more than 20 years, and you know there have been changes but you haven't bothered to figure out what those changes are and what they mean for you.

Ebay started sending emails about moving to Managed Payments approx 4-5 years ago. The change itself happened almost 3 years ago. Ebay put up banners/notices in the Seller Hub to state that sellers needed to change over and sign up for MP.

However, many have ignored the emails and banners.

At the moment, your funds are pending. You will need to sign up with photo ID such as passport or drivers licence. You will also need to add a bank account which is in your name. Micro deposits will be sent to that account to verify it. Without doing so, you will never see your money. Paypal is no longer acceptable for sellers and will actually be withdrawn for buyers as well in the not too distant future.

I would HIGHLY recommend you check out the Sellers Guide as to exactly what is happening on the platform, and until you are verified, I would not sell anything else.

Also, make sure that when signing up, everything matches in your verification ie: the name on your DL/passport must match exactly with the details in your Ebay registration. 

Going forward, there are 2 options:

1) You need to send the item within your stated handling time, or risk a defect (preferably with tracking)

2) You can cancel the sale and the funds will go back to the buyer

Some people do not have a DL or passport, in which case, those sellers have to cancel their sales, or list items that cash on pickup only.
