Paypal affiliation

So since it seems that I cannot sell anything without listing it under Paypal, why doesn't ebay publically state its compulsory affiliation with Paypal?

Compulsory affiliation?

Ensuring our members have a safe, simple and easy experience on eBay is a top priority for us. To help achieve this, we only allow payment methods that are safe, easy to use and offer strong protections against fraud.

Sellers must specify the payment methods they accept in their listings, so it's clear to buyers how to pay. In most categories, sellers have to accept either PayPal, credit cards, or both. eBay Money Back Guarantee applies only to items paid for with PayPal or credit cards.

For most categories of listings on eBay.com.au, sellers need to offer at least one of the following safer electronic payment methods:

  • PayPal
  • Credit card processed through the seller's internet merchant account

Note: Only items paid for using one of these two payment methods are eligible for eBay Money Back Guarantee.

In addition to offering at least one of the safer payment methods listed above for most listings, sellers may also offer one or more of the following payment choices:

  • Payment upon pickup (including cash)
If you offer payment on pickup, you may include this statement in your listing: "Contact me for payment methods to pay on pickup."
  • Bank-to-bank transfer (including by internet banking)
  • Cash on delivery
  • Bank cheques and personal cheques
  • Money orders

Not applicable

If folks don't read what is already written, what would be the point of writing other things that would not be read?

And why would the general public (people who are not on eBay) be interested anyway?

You obviously have no idea of the history of ebay and paypal.   There is no need for ebay to state anything other than it is compulsory to provide a safe payment method for your buyers.

Paypal was an established and successful money transfer service long before it was bought by ebay.  Ebay has now sold it so it is again a stand alone money transfer service.

stawks has posted all you need to know as to why it is compulsory to list using paypal or your own credit card facility.

If you don't like Paypal, then you may want to wait for ebay to introduce their new payment system Adyen

It is NOT compulsory to offer Paypal.

It IS compulsory to offer a safe payment method, i.e. PayPal, Credit card (merchant facility) or NOT necessary if selling a in vehicles and real estate.

And for pick up items even though PayPal is in a listing you can state Cash on pick up is preferred in your listings.
