Paypal extending dispute time in UK to 180 days

Just saw this issue come up on the Powersellers Board and thought it worth drawing it to the attention of those that don't visit the PS Board.

People who pay for services and digital goods using PayPal will soon enjoy better protection as part of a shake-up that will also see customers given much more time to report a dispute.

In response to feedback – and criticism from some quarters – PayPal is extending its UK "buyer protection" to cover services, digital goods, travel tickets and other "intangible" items. From 17 June, it will reimburse UK buyers if they do not receive these items or services, or if they don't match the seller's description.

PayPal's buyer protection has covered physical goods for many years, and the new rules mean this is being extended to a variety of non-physical items, ranging from music downloads and airline tickets to car rental and holidays.

From the same date, PayPal is also extending the amount of time buyers who encounter a problem have to report a dispute, from 45 to 180 days.

...The new rules apply to people with a UK PayPal account who buy from sellers in the UK and overseas.

Re: Paypal extending dispute time in UK to 180 days

To clarify - there are two significant changes occuring, below is text from Tamebay: My comments in bold

1.  PayPal has announced new terms to their Buyer Protection scheme that will take effect from 17th June this year.

Buyer protection will be extended to cover services, digital goods, travel tickets and other intangible items. Needless to say, tangible goods have been covered for a number of years.

A broad range of services and tickets are sold on eBay UK.

2.   From the same date, PayPal is also extending the time for buyers to open a dispute from 45 to 180 days. This brings it inline with similar protections offered by credit card companies. The extended buyer protection applies to people who use a UK PayPal account to make a purchase from a UK or overseas seller on and off-eBay.

This second change applies to all UK purchases for goods and services.

From ecommercebytes...

We initially reported that the forthcoming policy would impact only "intangibles" such as ebooks and MP3s, but PayPal UK spokesperson Rob Skinner confirmed that the 6-month protection period would apply to all transactions - "tangible and intangible," he said.

Re: Paypal extending dispute time in UK to 180 days

My post was not wrong = It was cut and paste - and sourced.

I highlighted in bold the key point of the cut and paste post, as reflected in the heading

That you (and ecommercebytes) interpreted it differently does not make my OP wrong.

I think you have misinterpreted the comments, which, as they were worded IMO is easy enough to do DW.
