Paypal freeze account.

Hi all,

can anybody offer any info.Paypal have frozen my account because I listed some CDs that obviously should not have been listed,my mistake.eBay did not remove them, but Paypal have frozen my account for up to 180 days, the CD sales were $50,the amount in the account is $1300.so not only cant I withdraw the money,I cant sell anything on eBay cause all my listings are BUY IT NOW,and any sale wont go through.Has anybody had a similar problem, and if so how did you work it out.

oops.see previous post....I am speechless lol

Seriously though to hold money for 6 months seems ridiculous to me. I understand the reasoning behind it but not the length of penalty. Surley the term should be commensurate with the indiscretion. Shouldnt the track record of this Sellers account have been examined. I mean a 15year history.....way OTT on paypals part.

Blanket policies & beaurocracies a marriage made in heaven.

Re: Paypal freeze account.

well, there is the possibility that he already has the stock.

So, knowing that this only affects a few of his items, can be reasonably confident that in 180 days time, (or sooner depending on investigations etc) his account will be cleared.

By then he will possibly have had more salees from stock that may otherwise just collect dust or deteriorate with age, and more money than if he had run no listings at all.

I would rather sell my inventory and get money eventually, than risk it becoming unsaleable at all.

Also, not knowing this sellers status, those goods may retain their position in best match etc, feedback will continue to grow etc.

Alternatively, I suppose (not sure of the legalities) he could open and offer PayMate for the interim, thus direct any payment that way.

yeah, 6 months seems steep - but maybe they need to investigate that a hacker hasn't invaded the account etc?

you know how all this stuff takes time, and with only being able to communicate via internet, sort of makes it harder - it's not like iof they asked a hacker "are you a hacker?", that they'd expect an honest answer and go - "oh, ok, you say you're not a naughty boy - as you were"....

but yes, blanket policies - but that's what happens with all one size fits all rules and laws - they're there to stop the really naughty people, but the not so naughty people get taken out as collateral.

Re: Paypal freeze account.

Hi All,

thanks for all your input.I run 3 stores, feedback approx 8000 NOT A NEUTRAL OR NEG IN  ANY SITE.Now I've had it its just not worth the time or effort anymore.

Holding $1300 for a problem with $48 is beyond bizarre. And holding it for up to 6 months, come on.

I made a small mistake,my history shows what I'm like.

Monday my call will be to the Ombudsman,in the hope they can pressure Paypal, get it sorted, then goodbye, what am I an overnighter or a school boy that needs a lesson.

Thank you for your input, and a small word of advice, dont leave funds in Paypal, this could happen to anyone, unless you are perfect and dont slip up.

Cheers to you all.

Re: Paypal freeze account.

Matey, you might find it is to pretect you as much as everyone else.

It might just be, that because this incident is so out of character for you/your account, that they are looking at the possibility that it has been hijacked and that you aren't in control of it.

Imagine if that was the case and you were then held liable for all this money that they syphoned off.

Only last week we saw an account that had been hijacked, and there would be instances too of people being dead and someone else taking over there accounts.

Just don't be too hasty in your decisions, eh? They are just following procedure from behind a screen, they don't know you.

I hope that you do get it sorted out soon though.

Re: Paypal freeze account.

What was wrong with the CDs that caused all this?

Re: Paypal freeze account.

They were live,I guess you would call them bootlegs (in the old language). My error,do doubt.sold for $48,now they hold $1300 for 6 months, come on.I have just looked at a site that someone earlier said, there are thousands of these incidents going on in USA,all funds held for 180 days, bit of a trend there dont you think.Anyway I'll see what the Ombudsman has to say on Monday,I just want my money, then close the lot down,I dont find anything in it anymore, lot of time for little return, and huge cost.

Cheers

Re: Paypal freeze account.

But can't you see that by listing counterfeit items that you have blown your 15 year good record?

I'm pretty sure it's illegal to sell counterfeit things BTW, so, maybe instead of or as well as you work out how you're going to answer to that if you get called to task over it.

Personally, I'd be getting a lawyer rather than an ombudsman, you've probably admitted to enough people that you've been selling counterfeit goods.

I'm also pretty certain that even if it was a mistake on your part, that ignorance isn't really a defence.

Re: Paypal freeze account.

It was a mistake and I made it,and I'm big enough to admit it.Now put it into perspective,$1300 for 6 months, and look at the thousands they have done it to in USA,anyway thats all from me guys, some great feedback, and some good ideas, you wont be hearing from me again.

please take care, and above all,DONT MAKE ANY MISTAKES.

Re: Paypal freeze account.

Matey, they've only said "for up to six months"

Once they clear up whatever bee they have in their bonnet, I'm sure all will be good.

It's not the fact of $50 of product that you have been caught with, it's what they haven't caught you with that i suspect they are investigating.

Once they work out that this is a one off and another gazillion claims aren't going to come out of the woodwiork, I reckon all might be fine. Not sure though when they have to hand it to the authorities - I think you will find they're just following the law.

so really, PM the mods, ask em to remove this thread and run this all past a lawyer before you admit this to anyone else, eh?
