PeSA Internet Conference Super Early Bird starts today!

I have attended every PeSA apart from the first Gold Coast one (due to family committments) and, all I can say, is that if you are serious about selling online (and not just on eBay), the conferences are invaluable.

The extensive range of speakers, sponsors and third-party service providers is incredible - there is something for every seller at every level. Everyone there is more than happy to chat with you and it's always great to be able to "get your gob" in front of the decision-makers. As Sonia said, the answer may not always be what you want, but at least you have a chance to be heard. I was able to renegotiate my entire Australia Post contract based on the fact that I had met a regional manager of Aussie Post at PeSA, met with her again back in Sydney and then was able to contact her when my contract was less-than-desirable. She went in to bat for me and I have never forgotten that. If I hadn't attended PeSA, I would have had absolutely no contacts and no chance.

Quite apart from the fabulous friends I have made, the opportunites to meet with other sellers, both big and small, are also so helpful. I have learned sooo much from others as hints and tips are bandied around constantly. I also met a "competitor" last year and she and I are now firm friends (waves to Rowena!) and shared a lot of ideas. We even met with some of the sponsors together!

I completely understand that it is a financial committment to attend and involves time away from your business and family - every year I have a little stress-attack about leaving! But if it is within your means, it is so worth it.

I attend quite a few conferences a year and, hands-down, PeSA represents the best value for money by far. Don't forget your $375 includes a 2.5 day conference, drinks on the first and last day and all morning and afternoon teas and lunches.

I also love the Gold Coast venue even though it involves more cost such as flights, accommodation etc. Everything is within walking distance, including the local accommodation, restaurants, bars etc and that way, it's so much more inclusive and keeps everyone together. It's a short trip from the airport and it's very handy to have a big shopping centre nearby too. I think it's far superior to any other venue I have been to, including the Sydney one where I live.

Phil is an ethical, serious businessman and the lambasting he's copped here for merely passing on a special offer is incredible to me. You may not personally know him but he has gone in to bat for eBay sellers, on his own time and dime, against eBay in the past - as in the "Paypal Only" debacle which many of you may remember. While the Gold Coast may not be your preferred venue, it obviously is for a heck of a lot of people as the numbers of attendees were massive, much bigger than any I have witnessed at other PeSA events.

I do find it quite perplexing how people can tear-down something they have never attended. If it's not for you, that's totally fine, but I'm not sure why the need is felt to berate Phil and poo-poo the conference when you have no idea what it's all about. If someone who attended made negative comments, I would accept that as their opinion, but to pass judgment from a place of ignorance doesn't put you in the best light.

Anyway, whatever! Attend or don't - it's your money, your time and your business. All I know is that I'll be there again next year and am looking forward to it ๐Ÿ™‚

Hey Licorice, I love your photos so you are already on your way and whatever you did learn from that course in the US must have paid off ๐Ÿ™‚

I remember when I first went along to an online selling event here in Australia. It was ESS in Bankstown, NSW. The cost was cheap and I learned a bit but the best part was winning the Aust Post prize of $500 that day! I would love to attend more events like that again. It was a bit scary straight up, walking into a room full of people I didn't know, and many seemed to know each other.

But from that day, I became friends with many of those people and they are all like minded. Keen to learn & move our businesses forward. Business selling on ebay is not for everyone and many are happy to just sell a few items here and there. At whatever level people are at, when you get us together, there is such a lovely feeling of community.

I know these boards can be hostile, but I don't enter into any hostilities. I have seen plenty over the years and sadly, I am not as active on the forums here as I once.  The majority of sellers are fantastic people who would never get into a stoush with anyone... guess we are further up the food chain ๐Ÿ˜›

Back to listings... groan!

Oh Jewelia! Come on... play nice luvey ๐Ÿ˜›  The benefit of the gold coast is a wide range of very cheap accommodation, cheap eats outside of the conference and a very positive learning environment.

If Sonia organises get togethers like ESS (Where I first met you), I'd be there in a flash. But for me, even with airfares, Gold Coast still works out cheaper for me than it would if it was in Sydney. Parking my car alone is now almost $50 a night... 3 nights... heck, my airfares were only $110 return. Sharing apartments is the way to go to bring the costs right down.

Anyway, I'd love to see you come along and experience this for yourself. We are not all well off, actually, far from it. But the trip is fully tax deductible... why wouldn't anyone who hasn't been not want to try it, just once :-x

The Gold Coast - A junket ? Lol, I would regard holding it in Las Vegas a junket. But the Gold Coast ? Come on. You can easily stay at a decent place for $100 a night sharing a room. There are plenty of us to share with. If not, there are backpackers hostels I'm sure. Whats next ? People going to ask Phil to hold it for free ?

PeSA Internet Conference Super Early Bird starts today!

Hi everyone,

Was just having a read through the comments after I made an early post on this thread.

I appreciate everyone has their opinions on this conference (and many others). I guess if you don't want to go and presume no benefit, then that is your choice.

Having sold online since 1999, (and selling hundreds of thousands of products on eBay), I can say that there were times early on that our business thought we knew it all, or at least, 90% of what we needed to know!

But after a trip to the USA to see the PeSA team at the eBay Live conference many years ago (travelled with Phil and others) we realised we had a lot to gain from conference and networking.

I don't tend to go to many conferences, because I don't like being 'sold to'. But PeSA's focus is a little different. I know this as Phil and I (and the rest of his team) have discussed this frequently. The Internet Conference focuses on educating and providing practical advice where possible.

As such, I have made the effort to speak at the conference every year it has been on and Phil has graciously let me warble on about multichannel, adwords, analytics, 3rd party tools and automation, logistics and much more. It is great to give something back to the industry and for those that have attended my sessions I hope you got something out of them!

For those that know me, and Phil and the team, I trust you get a lot of great content and ideas to grow your business.

Look forward to seeing you all there again this year!

And if you haven't been before, and are looking to grow your business, of all the conferences around in Australia I believe THIS is the one to try out.

Cheers,

Nathan Huppatz
