Pick-up item question

Hi all, I just sold an item, and I have listed it as pick up only, and the person who has won lives interstate and I do not want to send this item.

At no stage has the person contacted me prior to ask this question.

Am I allowed to straight away do the "offer second chance" option.

I have sent the winning bidder a question as to why he placed the bid when it was a pick up only.

Should I wait for the reply, or just do the offer second chance straight away?

Re: Pick-up item question

You should wait for a reply in case the bidder/family/friend will pick up

Re: Pick-up item question

Unless the buyer will agree to a mutual cancellation, you will have to wait 4 days, open an unpaid item dispute (assuming they haven't paid), then wait another 4 days before you can close it.

Only then can you offer a SCO. You can message the underbidder and see if they are still interested, but I would wait until after you hear from the winner.

Re: Pick-up item question

I have had buyers going through on holidays collecting their pick up only items as they pass through nsw on their way from Vic to Qld.

I think you are being silly at the moment asking them why they bid, they bid because they want the item, of course.

did you state in your listing a time frame for the item to be collected?

Wait until you actually have a problem with the buyer before annoying them with emails.

Re: Pick-up item question

you have listed your items as Pick Up

but you also offered COD . cash on delivery, an Australia Post service, maybe your buyer wants COD

you probably meant to select Cash on Pickup... completely different.

Re: Pick-up item question

COD as a payment option is fine as the item is claearly pickup only. Cash on Delivery then means come to my house, hand me the cash and I will deliver it into your hands 😛

If you are concerned and cannot wait for a reply, call them!

Cash on pickup means come to your house, hand you the cash and you deliver into their hands.

Cash on Delivery means exactly what is says. Cash paid to AP when it is delivered to the customer. If the seller offers COD then they are implicitly agreeing to deliver the item to the buyer using the Australia Post COD service, which attracts a premium. Apart from the fact that the buyer can refuse to accept, in which case the seller is up for the COD fee, plus postage.

Re: Pick-up item question

Unfortunately you have listed making a common mistake although I have never understood how anyone could think D stood for pick up rather than delivery!

All your buyer has to do is select COD as their payment method and you are screwed, if you open an unpaid item dispute the buyer will be able to successfully defend it.

All you can do now is hope they will agree to cancel or arrange for a friend, relative local to you to pick up and that they won't leave you a neg.

Re: Pick-up item question

I have sent the buyer my details, contact number etc, and have yet to have a response. No payments have been received, no word from the buyer. So I'd have to till Wednesday at latest before I can offer the second chance?

I guess from my mistake is not selecting the right options when selling my items. I've never ran into this problem before. But still having an item as "pickup" only and even in my ad saying pickup only, for someone to then select COD is pretty harsh.

Re: Pick-up item question

You will need to finalise this trans before offering as second chance. That means if the buyer agrees to a mutual cancellation or a Non paying item case is closed ( minimum 8 days from sale date on the latter).

If you find the buyer doesn't want to proceed, whilst waiting for the case to complete, you can message the under bidder and explain that they are eligible for a SCO and you will send that through as soon as the first is closed if they are still interested.

Re: Pick-up item question

Yes, the mistake is an easy one to make, and rather frustrating!  What's more annoying is the lack of communication on the buyer's part.   I think however you've made it pretty clear it was a pick up only item.  Was it the TV you listed?  If so, winning bidder is a newbie - 24 feedbacks so I would assume they would consider the COD a 'Cash on pick up' option too - I only realized recently what COD actually was despite years of buying and selling on ebay.

However, perhaps it wasn't the TV as you mention a second chance offer and you only had one bid on the telly.

Either way, given 4 days has passed you could open up an unpaid item dispute but that might be a little harsh, (they might be away for the long weekend or something).  Give them a phonecall politely ask them if they were intending to pick up and set a specific (and reasonable) deadline for this to occur should they still want the item.  If they don't, just offer them a mutual cancellation and explain that this would have no negative outcome for them or you (except the inconvenience and frustration of course!!)
