Hi all, I just sold an item, and I have listed it as pick up only, and the person who has won lives interstate and I do not want to send this item.
At no stage has the person contacted me prior to ask this question.
Am I allowed to straight away do the "offer second chance" option.
I have sent the winning bidder a question as to why he placed the bid when it was a pick up only.
Should I wait for the reply, or just do the offer second chance straight away?
I am in Melbourne, Buyer is in SA

It is also possible that they have moved over to VIC and haven't updated their address. It is over 30 degrees and long weekend, here in Melbourne, it is possible that the buyer has other things to do than check their emails or eBay.
But, just in case, you can contact the underbidder, explain what is going on and ask them if they will be interested in the second chance offer (once the first option was cancelled), should the original bidder be indeed in SA and bid by mistake.

COD can also be taken as CASH ON DELIVERY INTO THE BUYER'S HANDS AT SELLER'S DOOR because the seller is in fact delivering the item into the buyer's hands at that point in time after clearly stating that the item is PICK UP ONLY.
It's a tiny techinicality as far as words go but it stands just as much as COD does in the eyes of the law of the land when the goods are delivered to the buyer's door with payment being made at that point, but how can anyone take the latter to be the case when the seller clearly states PICK UP ONLY?
Sorry davewil but your point/arguement doesn't hold water in the OP's case.

It's a blu-ray player that I have sold. Check out the buyer, and has a very very high rating/score. And address is NSW (no SA as what I first thought) but I have also looked at previous items the person has purchased, and has purchased things interstate that was pick up only. But also something strange is the person only a few hours prior to winning by blu-ray player also won another bid for almost the same player.
Anyways, I'll wait a little bit longer, till wednesday, see what happens. It would be nice If I get an email in regards to what's going on.

I don't know why they ever bother with dictionary definitions because lawyers always seem to find a different viewpoint to argue their cases on, and they often win by them lol.
I sometimes just go sit in the public gallery of law courts to watch proceedings just to see and hear the word twisting antics going on there.
What you may think is straight foward amd plain speaking often turns out to be something you never dreamed it would mean, and it's all considered to be perfectly acceptable and legal lol.
It's better than any daytime TV program, but the scary thing is that these are REAL life situations.
Same sort of thing happens when polies get down to their dirty word twisting games and tricks in parliment.

Honesty if I offered to deliver something to you, would you really expect to come to me to get it ?:|

Why would you consider it harsh for the buyer to select COD? You only offered two options, paypal and COD so they couldn't have chosen cash on pick up when going through checkout even if they wanted to!

PJ the buyer hasn't selected any thing as they haven't been heard from yet.

COD in an eBay context is not cash on delivery, per se, it's Australia Post's COD service. So I think I've got plenty of water.

Well, when you send the person the invoice to pay, you can select "pick up" or other options if it's postage. I've selected pick up. I've added in the notes my address, my phone number etc.
