Postage and people complaining about cost

It been really eye opening reading so many people complaining about postage costs. The thing that gets me there must be alot of sellers running business like selling but NOT abn registered. If they were your postage is FREE no matter what it costs. As all postage costs are a tax write off for business. Just something to think about

Everyone is under that impression. They are also under the impression that everyone will be going to MP. Both are incorrect statement's that these members have been posting. To answer you yes you can still sell anything on ebay that falls into the grey area of MP. These sellers will not be moving to MP they will be staying with pay pal. Gold is NOT the only effected area that will not be going on MP

I have never mentioned anything about MP grey areas.

Please get your facts straight before you start impugning people.

Please do.

I will guarantee that IF you find any, they will not be in the context of grey areas.

Like replying to people who ask if they have to register for MP, and thus have presumably been told by eBay that they do. Which, ipso facto, has no demonstrated relationship to grey areas. Unless you're wrong in your assertions about grey areas, of course.

To this topic watch the space re gst on the postage. As in the topic we have been in contact with the ato and few govt depts and at this stage everything we are getting back and hearing back they should not be charging gst on byo postage and I will leave at that

And has been already said, eBay do not charge GST on postage. They charge FEES on postage, which they have been allowed to do for over SIX years, and GST on those fees, which they are obliged to do.

You might well be correct about MP grey areas, but given your lack of understanding of accounting, profit and GST, I certainly won't be taking your unsupported word for it.

Dave again they are not providing a service the key to all this in the gst nor a good. Maybe do some research and calls and you will get the same answers we are to this point..

And before you say it a fee etc. They are charging a fee that already taxed that they played NO part in. So the fee even very questionable. And if we want to go further an offline auction house will not charge gst unless the good is sold by an registered business then they have to collect gst. But that another matter again for another day..

Tennis_sweetspot due to some misinformed experienced members posting in these forums eg tippys Dave etc. Everyone is under that impression. They are also under the impression that everyone will be going to MP. Both are incorrect statement's that these members have been posting. To answer you yes you can still sell anything on ebay that falls into the grey area of MP. These sellers will not be moving to MP they will be staying with pay pal. The "misinformation" is coming from eBay, and being repeated by members who have read eBay's information - together they suggest two things. That all sellers will be moved to managed payments, and that some things absolutely can not be listed / sold by sellers on managed payments. The last line of the second info page is, however, suggestive that ebay will be working on a way to make those items able to be listed for sellers on MP. So, a better interpretation of this information is not "sellers who sell items that are restricted under MP won't be switched over", but rather "sellers who sell items that are currently restricted under MP might not be switched over until they are no longer restricted", but with the currently available information, that remains speculation, especially since they say "expand" and not "include all items on the restricted list" (unless you have an independent but verifiable source) .

Exhibit A:

If you have not yet received a notification to register for eBay Managed Payments, you do not need to do anything at this point. We will send you a notification at your email address on file and in My Messages on your eBay account when you are able to register via Seller Hub. Please make sure you are signed up for emails from eBay. eBay will manage payments for most sellers in 2020, and all sellers will eventually be required to have eBay manage their payments in order to keep selling on eBay.

Exhibit B:

Certain items are not allowed to be listed by sellers participating in managed payments, even though those items may be allowed on eBay.

All sellers must follow the guidelines in eBay's Prohibited and restricted items policy. Sellers who are participating in managed payments have some additional restrictions on what they can list.

What is the policy?

Sellers enrolled in managed payments are not allowed to list the following items:

Accommodation, timeshares, holiday packages and car rentals
Adult-only items, including movies, video games and photographs
Alcohol, beer, spirits and wine
Bullion
Coins, notes and virtual currency (only Exonumia, and Publications & Supplies are allowed)
Cultural heritage objects including artefacts, fossils, relics and cave formations
Downloadable products and virtual items
Gift cards, coupons and vouchers
Inhalers
Martial art weapons
Motor vehicles
Real estate
Services
Tickets for travel, events or experiences
Tobacco pipes and vaporizers
Weight loss supplements, sports supplements, appetite control suppressants, and sleeping pills

Listings that don't follow these rules may be removed from the site or from search results. Other actions we may take include lowering a seller's rating, charging additional fees, limiting buying and selling privileges, or suspending an account.

Why does eBay have this policy?
When eBay manages the end-to-end payments experience, there are additional restrictions on what items can be sold. We are working to expand the types of items allowed by sellers in managed payments, and ensure we are compliant to support them in the future.

Yep digital we are well aware of this to the point we split our selling into 2 groups goods that are managed payments allowed and goods not. So one area of our business will be going to MP. The other will not.
