Well, this was a fun thread to read.
OP answering themselves - makes for good reading.

It been really eye opening reading so many people complaining about postage costs. The thing that gets me there must be alot of sellers running business like selling but NOT abn registered. If they were your postage is FREE no matter what it costs. As all postage costs are a tax write off for business. Just something to think about
Anyhow, getting back to the point of your original post...
Would you please be able to edit your original comments to let others know that businesses are not getting FREE postage, no matter what it costs.
My fear is that sellers who are not good with numbers see these remarks and take them as gospel. Then when it comes time to do their tax return, they are met with blank stares from their accountant when they reply 'but I was told the postage was FREE'.
Tax deductable, yes, FREE postage, no.

Editing is only available within 5 minutes of the original post, so people will have to rely on the facts presented by others to ascertain the truth. Or an accountant. I doubt anybody using an accountant won't have been told to keep receipts for everything.

So after all that are ebay adding a gst to the items I sell?
I don't need to declare what I sell because it is very little and usually at minimal or no profit. I make a little money by doing all the labour on items to make them desirable to buyers and don't factor in my time when setting a price.
This topic is enough to make me run as fast and as far as I can from ebay. LOL.

Really, bump?
Do you really not understand the tax implications of your selling? Or the fact that eBay have been charging GST on your fees for the last couple of years? Really?
I certainly wouldn't take anything that the OP has said as being anything close to the truth.

There are no tax implications for me to worry about.
I haven't sold anything other than items I actually owned for about 5 years.
I have never done selling as a business or even a profit making concern instead I used to gather old spinning wheels and bring them back to life then sell them for the cost of the repairs and any parts I had to buy for them. When I moved to Sydney nearly 5 years ago I no longer had anywhere to do the work on them as I used to go to my mothers place and do the work in her double garage as she didn't have a car.
I have come back here trying to update myself on all the policy changes with a view to selling only one product should I go ahead with the idea but to be honest I don't think I need the stress of ebay.

Bump, Dave is right. You do not seem to understand the tax implications of selling on ebay.
Whether you own the items or not is immaterial....any income you make from selling them should be declared as such, and then you can claim back the costs incurred in selling them.

BUMP! I have a spinning wheel. One of my pets ate part of it. I don't know how to fix it! My late father in law built it from scratch for me years ago and I'd love to finally learn how to use it. I can't remember which part the pet ate, but it wasn't any of the wood.
As for the OP, my head hurts. I don't know how hard it is for someone to understand the difference between postage costs and fees on postage, and that the GST is only on the fees, not the actual postage. It's really doing my head in!
So much wrong information being given by the silver one. I hate to think some newbie would read this thread and take it as gospel.
