Postage to Belarus

Hi there,

I am in Australia and have only been selling to people who live in Australia.

I have just had an enquiry from someone in Belarus asking if I ship to Europe... I'm not sure what to do.

Has anyone had any experience in shipping from Australia to Europe?  I always just use Australia Post, but really not sure firstly who to use and secondly how I would change their shipping price on the product that they're enquiring about.

I read something on Ebay about not being able to send products to Belarus but not sure if this is still happening or if we're now able to.

Sorry about the long enquiry.   Hoping someone can guide me on what to do.

Many thanks

What you have to consider not only with this sale, but with any future sales too, is the possibility of things going wrong or of a buyer not being happy and wanting a refund or return.

When a buyer is in Australia, you can issue them with a postage label if that happens but if it is someone overseas, being out of pocket for 2 lots of postage might be just too much & it might be more financially viable to just let them keep it without a return or else you may end up paying them a partial refund.

I don't think all overseas customers are like this but I think there are definitely some who will take advantage and to be honest, this sounds as if it could be one of those situations.

Practically, IF you could find a carrier, the buyer only has to claim Item Not Received and they would keep the goods and get their money back. Given Belarus' standing, no reputable courier is going to incur the wrath of the US Government, so you wouldn't be able to send it anyway.

This is an issue to any third world country with less than robust standards. As an international pariah, ruled by a dictator, this especially applies to Belarus.

Personally, I would'nt be risking it

New, inexperienced seller, selling pricey items, to a buyer in Belarus

I smell red flags

What is your gut saying ?

Your postage specifically excludes Belarus, so I would tell them no.

Way too many problems I think, to make an exception.

To answer your questions.

They would do it and send a request for a total.  In which case you send them back an invoice with the adjusted postage included, then they pay based on that.

Australia Post don't send to Belarus, so you would need to find a courier.

But, The above was for info, I just wouldnt send to Belarus,  sounds dodgy as Bat poop.   But I no longer send anything overseas,  it's just not worth the hassle.

Definitely not. Don't even consider it. Block the buyer and make sure you update your buyer requirements that blocked buyers can't contact you, or buy from you if they are outside Australia.
