Power Seller - only for ebay's benefit!

I haven't even used up my 30 free listings for the month and ebay have decided to give me Power Seller status.  The benefit to me:  none.  The benefit to ebay:  I pay additional fees.

One more month of free listings and I would have completed my garage sale.  For those of you who want to criticise me for whingeing about losing free listings just think first about the extra business you probably gain from us garage sale people making ebay a more interesting place for buyers.

To ebay, your fees are high enough and I think you can afford to continue giving casual sellers, like myself, the free listings because there are benefits to keeping us around. You did double your profits in the second quarter this year, it's not like you need the extra cash.

I'm not going to start a new ID just to sell a few more items, and I'm not going to sell any more because it just feels like another kick in the teeth from ebay where its all for the benefit of the buyer.

Re: Power Seller - only for ebay's benefit!

so a power seller staus is not worth much? so why does ebay have it? it is only worth the little amount you have to sell now?

to suggest back then was a bunch of feedback ransome rednecks is a silly statement. i could say the new system that a seller can not give a negitive feedback so does that mean all buyers are the same this  if you go with your train of thought..

Here's another scenario.  I list an item at $100 in 2 categories as a PS:   cost $6.00     I sell the item for $150   FVF $11.85    Total cost to sell the item $17.85 (11.9%)

I sell the item as a free listing in 2 categories:  cost $3.00    I sell the item for $150    FVF  $7.90  Total cost to sell the item $10.90 (7.26%)

Where is the benefit of being a PS.

And I was feeling so proud coz I just received mine.......and I do think I worked hard to get it, honestly don't really understand the pro's and con's, but if it helps my sales, I say it is well and truly worth a little extra in fees. In the grand scheme of things, ebay isn't bad price wise. If you advertised in a paper it would cost a LOT more than any listing or FVF ebay can impose, and it reaches millions - a paper reaches it's 100,000 per cap and that is it

For the OP - you list in 2 catergories - just list in 1 - that will help, IMO the extra category is just a way that ebay do try to get extra $, I really don't think it benefits anyone.

The searches I do before I list determines whether I list in one or 2 categories and the value of the item I am listing.

As I have said before I am not selling on ebay with the intention of becoming a regular seller or to start up a business.  I AM HAVING A GARAGE SALE! I would hate to think what your net profits are once all your cost of sales and expenses have been accounted for.  You must be selling high volumes of great products to make a decent living out of this and to stick it out.  And good for you if you think being a PS benefits your bottom line.

I'll stick to my job and you stick to your.

Re: Power Seller - only for ebay's benefit!

I think the real problem is the fact that the mantle "Power Seller" carries connotations of reward (for achievement, I guess). As far as I know it didn't before the minimum sales was $3k, and (obviously) it doesn't now aside from the possibility of gaining TRS status.

Instead of being disgusted that reaching PS level doesn't reward you with anything, see it for what it really is. There are thousands, probably millions, of businesses that offer consumers trial periods, free samples etc etc. eBay is the only business I know of that puts the consumer in control of how long that free trial lasts, which could be indefinitely. Everywhere else only gives you a quarter of a cookie, or one free day membership at the gym and you're not allowed to come back next month for another free day. Not only that, even if you no longer become eligible on one ID, they don't stop you from taking advantage of it on another ID. In fact, they don't even care if you have ten IDs using 300 free listings a month.

Not only do they give you a bunch of stuff for free for as long as you choose to make it last, they've made it so that you can always get it for free one way or another.

I really just don't get this "gimme my free stuff - and only the way I want it - and if you don't, I'm outta here" thing. ?:|

At a guarage sale you would only get a couple of dollars for this item.  The key you prolly wouldn't sell and all the other stuff you have you would have sold for a fraction of the price! WHY???

Because at a TRUE guarage sale you only have a few people and bargain hunters in your local area come to see what you have.. on eBay you have opened your "JUNK" up to an international or national market (depending on how you have set your preferances)

you sold a lot of things for a great profit and very very minimum costs to you.... A paper add to advertise your guarage sale would have cost between 30-60 dollars depending on how fancy you wanted the add.

You sold a lot of stuff (by yhour own admittance) at great profit and now you are a little PEEVED because the business you are using to make such great profit, asked you to pay a little more money???
