Protecting myself when selling a laptop

Hi, I'm selling a new laptop and am a bit nervous about buyer scams. I have a genuine seeming buyer who wants to come and look at it and possibly pickup but also wants to pay paypal, as he needs proof of purchase. Does anyone have any recommendations for avoiding chargeback scams in this kind of situation?

Thanks

Tell him you will only accept cash on pick up as you have no protection as you can not prove postage if they open a dispute for not received.

Tell him cash only and you will write out a receipt as proof of purchase.

Re: Protecting myself when selling a laptop

You cannot refuse Paypal but you can go a long way to protect yourself.

First off explain to the buyer that they have no buyer protection when using Paypal for a pick up item, also tell them that to protect yourself you require photo id containing the buyer's address, you should photocopy that and incorporate it into a receipt which both of you sign and each get a copy. You can also make note of their rego.

If they then try to do a bank chargeback you have more than enough evidence to go to the police and have them done for fraud or obtaining goods by deception.
