.....as you both appear to know the ins and outs of eBays Site Map, T&C's, etc., can you please help me out here.
I am trying to close an eBay account. There is no money owing, I've transferred all unsold listings elsewhere, so the ID has nothing there.
I ACTUALLY READ about closing an eBay account, and clicked on the little blue link 'Close your Account' > Request to Close your Account - which only took me to Customer Support. <To help us connect you with the right Agent , blah, blah - and all the Selling options. But there is nothing within those options about closing an account.
Is there something I'm missing, or do I actually have to contact CS to organize this? I figured it'd be quicker to get an answer from one of you than have to ring CS!!
BTW, I understand that an account is not immediately closed, however, I do want to get the wheels in motion.
Your assistance to get me out of here will be greatly appreciated.

I just clicked on the link you posted.
And if it does go to the help pages - refer above. It's called getting nowhere fast.

And I definitely agree with your comment - mazes that lead everywhere and nowhere at the same time.

Yep - that's where I got to - and then it went to the contact CS page.
I wonder - if I just left the ID without any movement for however many months, would eBay just close it anyway?

OT, what happened to my picture?

Ok, I had NO problem. I clicked on Customer support, entered close account and kept following the prompts which stated ad nauseam "Are you sure want to close your account ?" or "Can we do something to make it better ? " blah blah blah
Finally arrived at last page and this is what showed
Please read the information below and check that you've read and understood it.
eBay requires a waiting period of approximately 7 days before closing your account. During this time, you won't be able to bid, make purchases, list items or change your contact information. You will still have access to your account information. |
When the waiting period is over, you'll receive an email confirming that your account has been closed. After this, you'll no longer be able to access any part of eBay that requires an account and your feedback profile will no longer be available to other members. |
The feedback you've left for other users will not be deleted when you close your account. |
Once your account is closed, you will not be able to use this User ID or email address on eBay or Half.com. |
You may continue to receive email from eBay for up to two weeks after your account is closed. If your account has not been fully paid, eBay may continue to contact you to collect outstanding fees |
I'm going to take a guess that because you're closing a SELLING id, you will need to wait or try the following
Can I close my account if it's currently below standard? | If your account is no longer meeting minimum standards, you can't close it until your account is no longer below standard. |
What if I have an outstanding balance on my account? | Before closing your account, make a one-time payment so there's no balance remaining in your account. |
What if there's still money in my account? | Request a refund before you close the account. When you close the account, the account balance must be zero. |
To deactivate your seller's account remove your payment infomation for your credit or debit card or bank account. On your seller account page, if you want to remove all your payment methods, select the All payment methods option, and then click the Remove button.
You may continue to accrue fees for any listings you still have on our site, as well as monthly fees if you have a subscriptions such as eBay Stores. Please make sure to cancel these subscriptions.
If you have any outstanding balances, please make a one-time payment before you close your seller's account. Learn more about making a one-time payment. If you've still got a credit in the account, request a refund.

I think it would just sit there and gather dust and cobwebs. I had a 0 feedback buyer win one of my items today (and paid straight away!!) and his account was opened in 2009.
Also, when I went to change my username, the one I wanted was already taken by someone in the US. Another 0 feedback member who joined in 2005 or somewhere around there.
I created an ID on eBay Germany a few weeks ago to see whether it could be done without actually living there. I'll have a play around with that and see if I can work out what you need to do. I wasn't planning on using that account, it was purely a test, so not worried if it does get shut down.

Thanks for that. I will give it another try.
The one line that amused (annoyed) me though is : If your account is no longer meeting minimum standards, you can't close it until your account is no longer below standard.
So, not that it applies here, that implies you have to keep trading on eBay until your account is 'above standard'. Double standards if you ask me. Those who are 'below standard' don't get any listing visibility anyway, so it is a counter-productive exercise to keep trading so that someone can close their account.
What a load of crock!!
