OK had a buyer return a product under parts missing or whatever, yes was missing a AU power adapter, and was another small problem, took 5 seconds to fix, buyer has sent the item back for refund ( no drama ) have just marked it as delivered to us, but the problem is the buyer did not send the product back with the original packageing or the instruction manual, (they only had it for around a week ) now makes this perfectly usable product not so sellable, was a $200 item, yes with so called free shipping, wanted to do a partial refund due to not all there, but there is no facilty to do that now, i know for a fact one could do that in the past, so now what ?
refund in full for a incomplete item ?
hope you gurus may have some experience in this area.
Cheers

I did a partial refund the other day (full cost of item, but I didn't refund the postage), through PayPal. That said, my buyer didn't open a dispute either, they just sent me a message and we sorted it out via messaging. She didn't ask for a refund as she was still really happy with it, but I gave her one anyway because the item arrived broken (I asked for a photo, which she sent). I obviously hadn't packed it well enough, so I was happy to shoulder the blame.
Maybe you can't do a partial refund if a dispute is open?

Hi Sheepie,
yes it looks that way, you were able to do that in the past, and on the dispute it does state please check the item carefully before issing a refund, may have to wait for the buyer to raise it further with Ebay, dont know but not refunding yet.

The so called return policy is just the usual stick it up the sellers and do anything the buyer says.
We would not pay for return post without a valid reason (damaged etc).
Have had people trying to return entire computer systems after a month and Ebay demanding we pay for it. No chance.
Have had items people use for a while and then dont need so they try the return policy reason. We refuse to pay for post. Ebay refunds the entire amount and the buyer keeps the item. More and more sellers are realising that anything under $1000 Ebay automatically will refund. Even have a recording of them stating this on the phone!!. Ebay would lose any court case with this action.
Thankfully, paypal have humans working for them and they refund the amounts each time. At least they know what the law is.
As you can tell we have had another poor dealing with Ebay themselves recently.lol

Yes you are right should consider ourselves lucky so far have actually had the items returned, so far have not pais for return postage, yes new system sucks, prior to the change first point of contact was the seller if their was a problem, now big icon smacks you in the face "Return this item" as soon as you purchase, no wonder plus big banners yelling "Ebay money back Guarentee " far out, if i walked into a BM store and saw signs like that i would purchase a item up to a grand then claim not as described and get my money back and get to keep it as well, then do the same again and again. Yep its just a automated system now, with no built in flexability.
