Return of the Zombie NPBidders

I have had a string of non-paying bidders recently, more in the last 3 months than I have had in  the previous 5 years. Most look like this- user name- h7y7bhjh9mx (random mix of numbers and letters) , feedback score-0. Bid, then nothing. Send a couple of invoices- still nothing. Then I put in a non-paying bidder claim, and it gets sorted.  Is this happening to anyone else, or I am I just lucky? Looking at the stupid made-up ID's , could they be computer-generated? Is it all a communist plot????

I would have normally blocked zero feedback bidders, but of course, they , like all buyers, can do no wrong, and now they can't be blocked.

Those user names are ebay generated for guest users.....they are not normal ebay account users.

I think they believe they can just bid and disappear....they get a shock when they find a dispute opened against them.

They are guest accounts and it's not surprising as many new to eBay think bidding is not committing.

They never could be blocked.

So many of your auctions have ended with only one bid...why not list with BIN & IPR?

Yes, they could be blocked. Unverified accounts with 5 or less feedback. Guest accounts were unverified. EBay removed that block about 6 months ago.

My apologies...I missed the part in the OP where they mentioned unverified accounts & guest accounts...thought they only wanted to block those with zero feedback (no block is required for guest accounts as OP runs auctions.)

I have no idea whether this is true or not, but I won't dispute it.  What I would like to say is that if they don't have an ebay account and they do bid, is there a possibility that because they don't have an account they can't actually pay for what they bid on because they have no way of accessing it?  I don't know the answer, I'm just posing the question.

You can buy without an eBay account when:

  • The item costs less than AU $6,000
  • The item can be purchased using Buy It Now. If you want to bid on an auction or send a Best Offer to a seller, you'll need an eBay account.

They should receive a confirmation email with a big "PAY NOW" in the middle of it.  It shouldn't be too hard to click on that.
