Reversed payment and no notification from Paypal?

I sold something today and i was notified by paypal it had been paid.  As soon as I marked the item as posted I noticed it disappeared from my paid items list.  I happened to go in my waiting payment list and saw the item there which had been refunded.  I didn't initiate a refund for this and the item is marked as posted already.  I was unable to undo the "posted" status. 

I checked in Paypal and yes it has been refunded, can't figure out why or how.  I've had no notification from Paypal about it.  I messaged the buyer saying payment has been reversed and the item will not be posted until payment is received.  Luckily I had not sent it yet. 

Normally I would have just posted the item and not checked.  I still don't understand how this can be refunded by paypal without my requesting it and why I haven't received a notification from paypal that it was reversed.

Any ideas?

The same thing happened to me but fortunately I hadn't sent the item.

That was sheer luck as I would have normally posted an item paid for at that time of day.

I have an inquiry going with paypal asking for an explanation and will post their response.

Here is what  just received from PayPal (see below).

The are blaming eBay and eBay CS are blaming them lol.

Sounds like a mystery glitch that should keep the techies busy for  while!

PayPal Money Request,so they can resend the payment to your PayPal account.

You can send a Money Request to anyone with an email address. When the Money Request is paid, the money is added to your PayPal account balance.

Here’s how to send a Money Request:

#.     Go to www.paypal.com.au and log in to your account.
#.     Click ‘Request Money’ near the top of the page....

Note:

•We email the recipient your Money Request.
•We email you when the Money Request is paid.
•We close unpaid Money Requests after ## days.

Same thing happened to me and I had posted the item that morning.  Thank heavens for honest buyers!  She notified me that something was wrong and I sent her a paypal invoice.  Would of been nice if someone had told us!
